What’s new
Every release, newest first. The current version is 1.18.26, released 2026-11-07.
1.18.26 2026-11-07
Tiles that line up.
- Every tile reads from the top: its mark, then its label, figure and words at the same height in each tile of a row, however long the words.
- The rounding rule sees bars too: a stage line with its bar under the word counts as two lines, so it rounds at 8px, not as a pill.
1.18.25 2026-11-07
Labels you can press, and the rounding rule reaching every tab.
- Labels on dashboard cards narrow the feed when pressed, as on the notes page; pressed again, they let go.
- Labels in force are drawn picked, as the label menu draws them: ink, with the × inside.
- The sharing pill matches the labels beside it: the same height and type.
- A label's focus ring sits inside it, so a scrolling strip never trims it, and shows for the keyboard only.
- Every tab strip is a pill (Email link | Password, This device | All devices), its sliding marker too.
- Recovery phrase is fainter than Forgot password? and centered under the sign-in form.
1.18.24 2026-11-07
One rounding rule, one label, one way to the calendar.
- One rounding rule, every element: one line is a pill; once it runs onto more lines, 8px corners. Cards and panels are 8px. Every corner reads one value, set by how many lines the thing actually shows.
- One label everywhere: the label menu's chip — light fill, violet #, the same size — on cards, in previews, in the menu and as the labels a page is showing.
- Links: in a card, a row like a hidden field (link mark, name, its × inside); in a comment, an underlined word in the comment's own type.
- The dashboard has Notes' keys: labels, calendar and sort, narrowing and ordering its feed.
- The brand mark opens the side only; the calendar key alone shows the month, with Overdue, Due this week and No date under it.
- The month fits: right under the bar on a phone, its name, arrows and Today on one line, scaling down when narrow.
- Reminder chips half as wide, with smaller type.
1.18.23 2026-11-07
Only notes look like cards.
- The dashboard's Notes summary is a heading, not a card: it sits on the page itself, at the list's left edge, so the notes below it are the only cards. It still opens your notes when pressed.
1.18.22 2026-11-07
The Outline mark everywhere a site icon shows.
- Site icons from the one mark: favicon.ico, a 192px icon and an Apple touch icon, all made from the Outline mark (
node scripts/build-icons.mjs) and linked from every page — so search results, bookmarks and a phone's home screen show Outline, not a stand-in.
1.18.21 2026-11-07
Reminders that wait their turn.
- Reminder chips, clearer: solid, one width, the reminder's name only, at most three with "+ more" for the rest.
- Out of the way: the chips step aside while a menu, a pop-up or the spelling review is open, and come back when it closes.
- Show more counts only words, steps, links, pictures and hidden fields, never an empty piece.
- A card's stage line in one type: its word and its count the same size.
1.18.20 2026-11-07
Found in search, one picture size, one type for a card.
- Search: the home page says what it is — "Free private notes app with to-dos & reminders" — and every page's description fits a search result. Two new comparisons: Outline.co vs Apple Notes and vs Todoist, each saying when the other is the better choice.
- One picture size everywhere: 140px tiles, two to a row, a lone picture across both — in cards, previews and comments, on a phone and a desk alike.
- A card's type is the same in a preview and opened: its title, words, steps, hidden fields and comments.
- Show more only when something is left out, not for a card's stage alone; a preview's steps sit at the words' left edge.
1.18.19 2026-11-07
Secrets copied the one way, a comment field that empties, and labels the pill's size.
- A secret pressed in a preview is revealed and copied as in the open card — one way for both, and now on iPhone Safari too; shown, it stays as wide as what it holds.
- The comment field empties once a comment is sent, the cursor kept there for the next one.
- The bar shows the card's title only once the card's own title has scrolled away — on desktop too.
- Every comment can be copied from its options.
- Share: the email field's key is the green "✓ Send" of sign-in; Private, All users and Public carry their lock, people and globe; the pill keeps its size while it loads.
- The pill and the labels sit in one row under Show more on every preview, as in the open card, all at the pill's size.
- Stage tabs show their own color at rest, the color of their underline.
- The edit toolbar flashes as editing starts, and the label menu keeps a card's labels in view while a new one is typed.
- The ↓ to the latest comment is the floating keys' glass.
1.18.18 2026-11-07
One rounding for everything, glass floating keys, and one thing edited at a time.
- One rounding everywhere: cards, panels, rows, comment bubbles, the comment field, the edit toolbar, pills and toasts all take it from one token (16px), on phone and desktop alike — the landing's note and board pictures too.
- Floating keys are glass: the +, Search and the labels / day / order pill are clear, with the page blurred behind them. Signed out, the + is there too and asks you to sign in.
- Double tap to edit, on a phone as with a double-click on a desk: the cursor goes where you tapped; on a comment, at its end. The pencil puts the cursor back where you last edited.
- The card or a comment, never both: starting to edit one closes the other.
- The bar says which card you're in as soon as its title scrolls away; saying "Notes", it goes back.
- Share opens whole: the page stays put with the dots on the pill, then the window opens filled — with fewer words.
- Reminders and other standing notices tuck into a small corner chip after 5 seconds; pressed, they open again.
- Comment bubbles fit their words; the selected stage tab's word takes its underline's color; the month is put away while a note is open.
- Smaller fixes: no white bar under the edit toolbar; the version line only for admins; no dash in the headline; the share pill shows it can be pressed.
1.18.17 2026-11-07
Comments readable on every card, one picture size, boards only as a list.
- Comments readable on every card color: their fill, and every row's, follows the card's own words — a dark card's comments are light words on a deeper ground.
- In the comments, the bar says whose they are: "Notes" becomes the card's title, on one line; with the card's content back in view, "Notes" again.
- ↓ to the latest comment in a long thread, just over the comment field, as in Claude's chat.
- One picture size everywhere: a card's pictures, open and in previews, in notes and boards — one the card's full width, several two to a row. The boards' Picture size key is gone.
- Boards open only as a list: board emails, old columns links and bookmarks all land on the list; the columns view is off.
- Search opens a note when it is ready: the dots on the result pressed, search held as it is, then the note whole.
- A note opened from a link opens in the page, never as a pop-up, as your own notes do.
- On a phone, labels, the day and the order float in one pill between + and Search.
- The dashboard no longer flashes other notes before yours: it waits for the sign-in.
- The reorder map's rows span its width, one even column.
1.18.16 2026-11-06
Reminders that come back, emails that open the note, comments without color.
- Reminders can repeat daily, weekly or monthly: one key on the reminder's Date & time line; after each email it moves on to its next time.
- Pressing a card's reminder opens its times instead of clearing it; the popup has one rounding throughout and fits a phone with the keyboard up.
- An email's Open the note opens that note, not the last one you had open.
- Emails, quieter: one line saying what happened and when, the thing itself without a mark beside it, a smaller title, no row of icons under the button.
- Comments are never colored, whatever the card's color, read or edited.
- Two taps edit a comment on a phone, as a double-click does on a desk.
- The pencil opens editing at the card's end, the toolbar in sight; no strip of the card under the toolbar on a phone.
- Spelling marks only the changed words, not the blank lines after them; header titles aren't selected by a double press.
1.18.15 2026-11-06
What was copied, plain to see; toasts that go.
- A copied secret is marked like selected text while it's shown, in a card and in previews, so it's plain what went to the clipboard. Only the latest copy is marked.
- Every toast goes after 5 seconds, several at once too; they used to stay while stacked. Reminders and errors stay until closed.
- Steps the same size as secrets and the priority chip in a card.
1.18.14 2026-11-06
Tighter on a phone, secrets in every preview, and one rounding everywhere.
- Secrets show in every preview, whole: the dashboard and the Notes list show each hidden field, never cut by Show more. A long name sits on top with the dots under it.
- Press a secret to see and copy it at once, with a "… copied" toast; press again to hide it.
- The edit toolbar is part of the card: no outline, no line above it, a quarter lower, at the bottom of the screen while a long card scrolls and right under the words at its end. On a phone too.
- One rounding, phone and desktop alike: anything that runs onto more lines (a row, a comment, a link, a toast) rounds less.
- A phone card, evened out: the words at one size, the details (reminder, priority, stage, who and when) at one smaller size, secrets the same size as the priority; less room between paragraphs and comments, a smaller tick.
- Labels only from the toolbar's #, on the Shared line beside Private or Public ("Shared with everyone" is now "Public"); hovering a label only darkens its words.
- Spelling, word by word: each correction marked where it stands; Keep or Accept decides that one alone.
- One loader while a card opens, a small window in the middle, besides the dots on what you pressed.
- Dragging cards on a desktop shows the map too; the pencil is a bolder line closer to the ⋮.
1.18.13 2026-11-06
Proof it's you, and bars you can see on an iPhone.
- Changes that protect an account need your 12 words too: setting or removing a password, removing a passkey copy, a new email, restoring an account copy, replacing the words. With them open here it happens silently; a sign-in link alone can't do any of it.
- New words without the old ones wait a week, your email told with a Stop link; from a device where the old words are open: "It wasn't me — stop it" or "It was me — move now".
- iPhone: the edit toolbar and the comment field show again — the page's scrolling part runs under them instead of ending above them, where iPhones cut them off.
- iPhone: opening a comment no longer jumps the card to its top — the hidden stage tabs scrolled the page; they scroll only their own row now.
- The card's menu fits whole on a short screen (every key, nothing cut); Pin, Share and Archive with their icons beside their words; the picked stage no bolder than the rest, Notes lighter.
1.18.12 2026-11-05
Links that behave, labels that stay.
- Labels come off only by their own ×. A label's touch area had spread over the whole card, so any press could take one off; it's back to the × alone, and Space never presses it.
- Typing a link makes one link, once the word is finished (a space, a new line, leaving the field) — no more doubled words or half-links. Pressed while editing, a link turns back into its address to change it.
- Links read the same in a card and in comments: title only, no wider than its title, the × beside it, asking before it removes one. Steps ask too. You can always write under the last link.
- Edit, Done and the card's menu sit in the top bar; the bar beside the back arrow lights as one on hover. Hovering the stage line shows a tick: a press moves it on.
- "+ Label" leads the label row and opens the label menu; labels are half the size and always one scrolling line. Suggest labels sits opposite Suggest steps.
- Search looks through everything, not only the labels in force. The stage tabs line up, the reminder chip is as wide as its time, the latest comment shows whole in the list.
- Phones: the page no longer jumps to the top after opening a comment; the bottom bars get their own layer on iPhone. Admins' Debug records scrolls, label removals and the bottom bars.
1.18.11 2026-11-05
Labels where you can see them.
- A card's labels sit on its Show more line, at the far end — in view whether the card is cut short or open.
- Search shows all your labels in one line that scrolls, drawn as cards draw them; one your words match is marked where it stands; pressed, it's searched for.
- Search's All and Notes tabs are gone while boards are put away — they always said the same.
1.18.10 2026-11-05
Secrets that behave, tabs that slide.
- A secret opened to be written puts the card in edit mode — its toolbar on, Done in the top bar, the field still open.
- Enter on an empty secret works: with a name it's kept as Empty; with no name and no value it goes.
- A secret being written looks like the row a step is added in.
- The stage tabs' line slides to the tab pressed, in each stage's own color; on a phone the tabs spread across the width.
- On a phone the page's name sits right after the Outline mark.
1.18.9 2026-11-05
Never the boards by mistake, and one thing at a time.
- Opening Outline signed in goes to the last note, card or board you opened (or the dashboard) — no more landing on the boards.
- A Done key in the top bar while a card is edited; on a desk the toolbar is its own box under the card, as wide as it.
- Phones: the Outline mark alone at the top until pressed; Dashboard and Notes come in beside it, the size of the mark. One + in the footer, across from search.
- A new note from the dashboard waits with its loader, then opens whole, ready to type.
- Previews show the latest comment whole, its link as a small card; a secret's ⋮ (Show, Copy, Edit) at all times; link pictures half as wide in the feed.
- Pressing a preview's comment field opens the card on its latest comment, lit; the comment bar sits above Chrome's toolbar on an iPhone.
- Sign-in keys say Send; "Dashboard" opens the side as the mark does; a secret being edited is lit and the page holds still.
- Labels from the assistant: up to three the first time a card is saved, then one more only when it fits better.
- For admins: a Debug panel (account menu, Ctrl+Shift+D) — where the page went and why, errors, slow requests, with Copy. Never a sign-in token in it.
1.18.8 2026-11-05
Back where you were, and one thing at a time.
- Signing in opens the dashboard the first time, and after that the last note, card or board you opened — never the boards wall.
- Reset password and the recovery phrase are steps of the sign-in window, each with a back arrow; your email is filled in already, on this device.
- On a phone a card opens full screen, its keys at the right edge; edited, it fills the screen down to its toolbar, which stands on the keyboard.
- One bar at the bottom: the comment field, or the card's toolbar while it's edited, or a comment's own while that's edited — never two.
- A new note opens ready to type in its name, with "What is this about?" showing under it.
- Only the back arrow goes back; pressing "Notes" beside it takes the card to its top.
- One active look for every field; an edited comment looks like the comment box; a step looks like a field.
- One "Add a note" on screen, and no pull-to-refresh on an iPhone.
1.18.7 2026-11-03
Previews that say more, keys that say less.
- A preview cut short shows Show more under its words; pressed, the card opens out in place.
- A preview's latest comment shows its pictures and its link.
- The comment field comes with the first comment and stays at the bottom; on a computer it no longer slides in from the side.
- A toast's Open waits, its key working, then opens the note whole.
- The loading dots take the menu's place — nothing moves while a card opens.
- The assistant's keys are words only; "Shared with" shows a hand.
- A board's tile keeps a steady height, its links small; a board is renamed in place.
1.18.6 2026-11-03
Right where you pressed.
- Pressing a comment in a card's preview opens the card at that comment — "← Notes" stays at the top.
- Writing in a card on a phone keeps the card whole; it no longer shrinks to one screen.
- On a phone, the top bar is lower and the card starts closer to it.
- A board's tile shows all its cards, with no Show more.
1.18.5 2026-11-03
The comment field, at the end.
- The comment field comes only at the very end, once you've read the card and all its comments; the last one stays in view above it.
- On a computer, the comment field lines up with the card again.
- A list card's rows have one dot each, not two.
1.18.4 2026-11-03
Steps, suggested once.
- Suggest steps adds only steps the card doesn't have — pressed again, it says they're already there.
- The steps it adds light up where they land, and the button shows it's working while it thinks.
- A short card shows its comment field once you've reached its end.
1.18.3 2026-11-03
One preview for every card.
- The Notes list previews cards the way the dashboard does: the name, its first lines, its pictures and its latest comment.
- The latest comment in a preview stays on one line.
1.18.2 2026-11-03
I can’t give you details — but I can give you the outline.
- A new line for the site — on the front page, in its title, in what a shared link shows, and in what search engines and language models read.
- One way of loading, everywhere: three dots on what you pressed — a card, the dashboard's Notes — and the page opens once it's ready.
- A comment pressed in a card's preview opens the card at that comment, from the notes or the dashboard.
- Cards ease in as they open; a deleted comment fades out where it was, once the question has gone.
- Deleting a comment with files shows them first, then says which were deleted from storage, and where they were.
- The dashboard's previews show each card's words again, and its pictures — its comments' too.
1.18.1 2026-11-03
The dashboard as a feed.
- Dashboard, Latest: reads again whenever you come back to it, so a new note or a fresh comment puts that note on top without a reload.
- Opening a note from the dashboard waits in place, the card showing it loads, then opens it whole.
- Boards are put away for now — out of the dashboard, the side, the menus and search — until their cards open the way notes do.
- The side's page keys: pressing the page you're on opens or closes the side.
1.18.0 2026-11-03
A card is a conversation.
- Cards open in the page, not in a popup — the card first, its comments under it like replies, and "Write a comment" at the bottom. "← Notes" (or Backspace) goes back to the list exactly where you left it.
- A card opens whole, once it has loaded: the list stays as it is, the card you pressed showing it loads.
- Edit in place: the pencil or a double-click edits the card exactly as it reads — nothing moves, the same letters and lines, links and steps where they were. The toolbar sits at the card's foot; its ↵ saves, and Escape stops editing where you are.
- Typing keeps your place, and long cards in the list show their start with "Show more".
- Links and steps carry their × all the time, quiet until you point at them.
1.17.25 2026-11-02
Saved first, checked after.
- Closing a card saves at once and closes — the spelling check runs on in the corner, and corrections you accept are written after.
- Accept all after saving a card's words keeps the corrections and closes the card.
- Latest: the newest comment brings its note to the top.
1.17.24 2026-11-02
The latest first.
- Dashboard, Latest: notes and boards together, whichever you touched last on top.
- Link previews and secrets only as wide as they need, their × and ⋮ right beside them.
- Labels a card only offers fade back; the ones it wears stay clear.
1.17.23 2026-11-02
Everything in reach while you write.
- A long card in the list shows all of it, scrolling inside itself — no words or links cut off.
- The toolbar stays at the bottom of an open card, typing or not, and covers the window down to its edge.
- A card opened from its link starts at the list's width instead of jumping to it.
1.17.22 2026-11-02
What you type stays what you typed.
- Nothing overwrites what you're writing: a refresh no longer brings back the last saved words over the line you're typing, and a name changed and changed back is saved as shown.
- Typing goes into your words, not the last step.
- One save key at a time: a field's ↵ shows only when there's something to save or send; Done is a check.
- Comments land in full view, clear of the comment field.
- On a computer: the toolbar stays at the bottom while you write, a click outside saves and closes the card, and the card opens as wide as it is in the list.
- The list: pictures side by side; a long card scrolls inside itself with its comment row kept at its foot; tap a secret to see it; one-column cards as wide as the page.
- The dashboard: each card trimmed to its name, two lines and its last comment.
- + and Search stay in the corners when the page scrolls; the stage tabs centred on a computer; the side's page keys beside the mark.
- After an update, a page left open reloads itself once instead of failing.
1.17.21 2026-11-02
Made for the phone, with the keyboard up.
- Every popup fits above the keyboard: titles and the line under them stay on one line and size themselves to fit; a popup too tall for the room scales down as a whole.
- Your 12 words, easier to check: Write down shows them four to a row; Confirm puts the words to tap beside the places they fill, every word whole on one line.
- Search and Add, round and always at hand: a magnifier bottom-right, a + bottom-left, on every page.
- Spelling that doesn't get in the way: it checks in a small pill in the corner; when it's done, review each correction, or accept them all at once.
- A card's words hold everything: pictures, steps and secrets sit inside the field, above its toolbar — Add a step, a secret or a label from there. The toolbar stays at the bottom as you write.
- Comments land in view: a comment shows it's sending, then scrolls into view, never under the comment field.
- A first note for every new account, beside the first board.
- The version in Settings and the menu at a smaller size.
1.17.20 2026-10-23
Restore from an unencrypted copy.
- An unencrypted copy you can restore from: Save unencrypted copy (it asks first) writes your notes, boards and files to a folder named Outline and your email, with one index file. Restore from a file takes that index and brings every record back — no 12 words needed, and only into the account it was made for.
- Backup, simpler: one key and More. Restore and Restore from a file moved into More.
- Locked? Asked once: Restore, Save unencrypted copy and Choose another folder open Unlock, then carry on.
- Nothing jumps while loading: the Secret Recovery Phrase keeps its shape, and the backup key says Backing up while it works.
1.17.19 2026-10-23
Backed up, at a glance.
- The backup key says how it is: while it works, it fills and a ring turns slowly round the pause; done, a check and Backed up, still; stopped, Back up now with a red square that starts it again.
1.17.18 2026-10-23
One Backup, always going.
- Backup in one place: where it is, Back up now, Restore, and the rest under More. On a computer, nothing is backed up until you choose a folder — any folder; Outline makes its own inside it, named like driveX's (Outline-your account), never your email.
- Backups keep going: once your Secret Recovery Phrase has opened the folder, backups carry on by themselves — after a refresh, while the phrase is locked — until you sign out.
- Stop and resume on the key itself: a pause inside Backing up; stopped, a red square that starts it again. While it works, the key fills and a ring turns.
- Wallet, a page of its own, with Back to Settings; the balance big and centered; tap it to send everything.
- Forgot your passcode? Outline can't recover it for you — your 12 words choose a new one, the phrase stays the same. Unlock with Passcode or Recovery.
- Simpler Settings: Reveal, Lock and More for your phrase; a revealed phrase opens in its own window.
- One line everywhere: buttons, tabs, titles and addresses made smaller to fit, never broken in two. Every button one height.
- One loader: three dots, the same everywhere. Fewer toasts — the same message never twice — and long ones with their key underneath.
1.17.17 2026-10-23
Your Secret Recovery Phrase, set up the way driveX does it.
- New words, step by step: three things to tick before they're shown; the words under a cover until you tap them, copied as they appear; then all 12 tapped back in order — no typing, no keyboard.
- Forgot your recovery passcode? Open your phrase with your 12 words or a passkey, then choose a new passcode. The phrase stays the same.
- Backup in this browser, by itself: once you have a Secret Recovery Phrase, an encrypted copy of your notes, boards and files is kept in this browser until you choose a folder. A picture shows where to choose one.
- The wallet's balance, big and centered. Tap it to send everything; the network fee comes out of it.
- One line for every title and button: made smaller to fit, never broken in two. With the keyboard up, a window scrolls as one and its buttons stay in view.
- Settings, simpler: one column of buttons; This device and All devices as tabs; the password section is gone (reset it from Sign in).
- Sign-in: Can't access your email? sits right under the field. The reset link opens directly, with the Outline name on the page.
- Fixed: an Unlock that did nothing for an account without a phrase; the backup question asked twice.
1.17.16 2026-10-23
Outline your ideas.
- A new line on the front page: Outline your ideas. The page title says what it is too: AI notes and boards. The picture a shared link shows, redrawn with it.
- Search engines read the sitemap and robots.txt directly: both are plain files again, with nothing in front of them that could turn a search engine away.
1.17.15 2026-10-23
Old addresses, gone.
- Pages that are not here say so: an address that is neither a page of this site nor part of the app now shows Page not found, with a real 404, so search engines drop the old site that used this domain. Its pages with a match here are sent to it: About to Features, Sign up to the home page.
- One address per page: a page asked for with a slash at the end is sent to its address without one.
- Pages that never fail for search engines: every page is a plain file again; the step that counts crawler visits runs only for robots.txt, the sitemap and llms.txt, so a busy day can no longer turn pages into errors.
- Only the real pages in search: the app's own screens — notes, boards, settings — tell search engines not to list them, so the home page and the feature pages are what shows up.
1.17.14 2026-10-21
Tap the top, and the right tab.
- Tap the top of the browser on a phone to go back to the top — of an open card, a window or the page — as in an app.
- Filters show everything they find: picking Reminders, Due, Pinned, Shared or Archived puts the stages back on All.
- A closed note is shown where it is: if its stage is not the tab you were on, its own tab comes up.
- The card's color key always in its header, left of ⋯, and no longer in the menu.
- Fixed: swiping a reminder away no longer turns the tab; no empty white pill under a card being written.
1.17.13 2026-10-21
Nothing in the way.
- No empty panel: with the comments closed, the card goes straight on to the comment field.
- The comment count stays put: at the top right, the same size, whether the comments are open or closed.
- The header stays clear: words scrolling up fade out before they reach its pills.
- The writing tools a shade darker than the card they work on.
1.17.12 2026-10-21
Tools that belong to the card.
- While you write a card, its toolbar is part of it: on a computer the card's own foot, right under its labels, the same rounded panel; on a phone a panel of the card's color at the foot of the screen.
1.17.11 2026-10-21
The card as a card.
- Signing in opens Notes: every time, rather than the last note or board you had open. A sign-in link asked for from a note or a board still comes back to it.
- On a computer, one column again: the card on a rounded panel of its own color — its words, fields, files and, while you write it, its labels — and the comments below it. Writing, the card's tools sit right under it.
- The comments stay while you write: faded under the card like a watermark, on a phone and a computer, rather than hidden; the comments key brings them back. Notes and board cards alike.
1.17.10 2026-10-20
Swipe between stages.
- On a phone, swipe left or right to move between the tabs — All, Notes, To do, Doing, Done — on your notes, your boards and each board. Round from the last back to the first.
- Retired: the old board page and the board-on-the-desk trial, and the code only they used.
1.17.9 2026-10-20
Comments that grow, pictures side by side.
- The comment field grows as you write: each new line raises it, over the comments, until only the header is left; then it scrolls. No line cut off at the top.
- Pictures at 16:9: under a comment, side to side across the comments — one in the middle, the next showing at the side; swipe from one to the next. A card's own pictures, the card's width, 16:9 too.
1.17.8 2026-10-20
No more endless loading.
- Fixed: signing in, or opening your boards, could keep loading forever. A call to the database that never came back held every request after it. Now each call has a time limit, and a stalled start-up is begun again, so a page loads or says what went wrong.
1.17.7 2026-10-20
Comments that scroll on their own.
- On a computer, the card stays still on the left while its comments scroll in their column, as tall as the card, the comment field fixed at the bottom. No sideways scrollbar.
1.17.6 2026-10-20
The card and its comments, side by side.
- Two columns on a computer: an open card on the left — its words, fields, files and labels — and its comments on the right, the comment field at their foot. They stay side by side while you write the card. On a phone, nothing changes.
1.17.5 2026-10-20
A comment’s tools are a comment’s.
- Only what a comment can carry: writing or changing a comment, its toolbar has the file key and send. Steps, hidden fields, labels and Due belong to the card — they are in its toolbar while you write the card, and no longer added to the card from a comment.
- The card’s color while you edit a comment on a phone, not plain white.
1.17.4 2026-10-20
Change a comment where it is.
- Edit in place on a computer: double-click a comment, or choose Edit, and it becomes the comment field right where it stands — its words, its files, the toolbar and send. The whole comment is highlighted while you change it. On a phone it still opens full screen.
- Labels at one size: a card’s labels match its stage and steps, in the open card and its preview.
- The composer sits flat at the foot of the card; the comments above it stay rounded.
1.17.3 2026-10-20
Comments that suggest, and carry files.
- A suggested reply: when the latest comment isn’t yours, a reply is offered above the composer. Tap Send to post it, or tap its words to change them first.
- Files in comments: attach a file from the composer’s first key, or while you edit a comment. Several pictures sit side by side and scroll; PDFs show a preview. An open file’s name floats over it.
- Labels with the words: labels show while you edit the card, not by its comments. Adding one says where it went.
- A comments key: the card’s toolbar has a 💬 key to go straight to its comments.
- Glass pills: the stage, reminder, labels and hidden fields are see-through, reading well on any shade.
- Tidier comments: less space around them, the composer as wide as the column, rounded panels. Links fit on one line. Assist has no subheading.
1.17.2 2026-10-20
One size for a card's facts.
- Facts read as one: a card's stage, its reminder, its steps, its hidden fields and its comment count share one size and weight — in the open card and in its preview, on a phone and a computer. Its title and words keep theirs.
1.17.1 2026-10-20
Clear about what you are editing.
- Editing a card shows only the card: while you write in its title, words or steps, the comments step aside and the card's own tools take the foot, with ✓ Done to bring the comments back. A card with comments opens to be read.
- Two shades: a card's content a shade darker than its comments, so the two read apart. No dividing bar.
- One toolbar: the composer and the card's tools are the same bar, the keys in the same places either way.
- A header that floats: the stage and the ⋯ options as see-through pills over the words, with the close ×.
- Labels that reuse yours: closing a card can add up to two labels, choosing ones you already have before making new ones.
- Smaller facts: hidden fields and steps at the size of the stage line.
- Fixed: on an iPhone the card no longer stops halfway down the screen after the keyboard closes; pop-ups and AI answers open above the card, not under it.
1.17.0 2026-10-20
One card, one way to write.
- One view for an open card, on a phone and a computer alike: its words, its fields and its comments in one column, and one composer at the foot — the card's tools under it, one send key. No half-open window, no separate comments pane.
- Ask with "/": type / in the composer to break a card into steps, summarize it, suggest labels or draft a reply. Nothing runs until you pick it, and nothing is posted until you send.
- Notes and boards share their stages: Notes, To do, Doing, Done — the same tabs, the same words, the same colors. Tap a card's stage to move it on; after Done it starts again at Notes. Done is green.
- Tabs that always fit: the stage tabs scale to fit one line, each count beside its word.
- Rename by tapping the name: a board's name in the bar opens it to rename. On a phone it opens full screen.
- Back where you left off: signing in returns you to the last board, note or card you had open.
- Fewer emails: none about your own changes, and none when a board is created or edited.
- Fixed: a comment's field no longer reopens empty after sending; stage changes no longer add blank lines to a note; the sort key is always last; the board title always fits.
1.16.0 2026-10-19
Backups that keep themselves.
- Automatic backup: while your Secret Recovery Phrase is open, your account backup is saved into your folder by itself after changes — at most once an hour, at least once a day.
- Back up now asks for a folder on a computer instead of downloading a file. Phones still download it, encrypted.
- Use a different Secret Recovery Phrase: bring in words you already have; this account takes that identity. Words that belong to another account are refused before anything changes.
- Fixed: a busy button's dots are visible again on black buttons; headers in pop-ups take the window's own color; the page frame no longer flashes a cooler color while a sign-in link loads.
- Clearer: "Your notes and boards stay as they are" where a phrase is set or replaced; one sentence to a line in "Check your email".
1.15.0 2026-10-19
Your folder, readable again.
- Save readable copy: your encrypted folder opened with your words and written out as ordinary files — notes, cards, pictures — into a folder you choose. The same decrypt driveX uses, now shared between the two.
- A folder of its own: whatever folder you pick, Outline keeps its copy in _Outline/<your email>/ inside it — nothing loose among your files, and two accounts on one computer stay apart.
- Comments beside a card, on a computer: the card a shade darker than its comments, so the two read apart.
- A comment's name and time line up with its words.
1.14.0 2026-10-19
Backed up, simply.
- Back up to this computer: in Chrome or Edge, onboarding ends with choosing a folder, and each sign-in asks until there is one. Back up now saves your account backup there, and Restore from your folder brings it back. Phones keep the file.
- Reveal copies your words and says so.
- Unlock one way at a time: passkey, this device's password, or your 12 words — with one link to use the words instead.
- Change password with an email link, not your old password. One button, nothing else.
- Sign out all other devices at once, from Settings.
- Fixed: a phrase with a wrong word — typed or pasted — no longer stops the page; it says what's wrong. A new phrase opened straight from Settings is always saved as shown.
- Clearer buttons: a red one for what can't be undone, and every button answers when you point at it.
- Wording, simpler throughout these screens; tiles no longer overlap their labels.
1.13.0 2026-10-19
Your Secret Recovery Phrase, walked through.
- A walkthrough the first time you sign in: what the Secret Recovery Phrase is, then Create — the 12 words to write down, with Copy — then how this device keeps them, and done. Or Enter Secret Recovery Phrase if you already have one, with Paste. Later puts it off on this device.
- Sign in opens the sign-in window straight away from the bar.
- In Settings, your name and email on top, then the Secret Recovery Phrase. Reveal Secret Recovery Phrase works while it is locked: it unlocks in a window, then shows the words.
- Create a new Secret Recovery Phrase: asked first, then the old words stop recovering the account and the new ones take their place.
- Passwords set in a window, their rules as one line of chips that light up as each is met; an eye to show what you typed, and an OK key to move on.
- On a phone, a window you type into opens full screen, its title and close pinned to the top.
- Tighter windows and clearer headings: less padding and line spacing; titles and section names a clear step above the words under them.
- The kit's Type page shows every kind of text the app draws.
1.12.4 2026-10-19
Comments a key away, pictures edge to edge.
- A Comments key while writing a card, after Due: pressed, the writing screen closes and the card's comments open at the newest.
- Pictures on a card run edge to edge, cropped to fill at the height they had. More than two scroll sideways in one row, a picture at a time.
1.12.3 2026-10-19
Waiting you can see.
- Every loader, easier to see: the busy mark's dots stronger and larger; the shapes that hold a page's place — notes, the dashboard, a board, a thread — in a soft ink tone you can make out on any background.
- Calm, minimal motion: each shape fades gently in and out a beat after the one before, so a stack ripples quietly while it loads. Still for anyone who asks their phone for less motion.
1.12.2 2026-10-19
Changing a comment, finished.
- Escape while changing a comment leaves the change and nothing else — the card stays open.
- On a phone, a comment's pictures and files ride the writing screen's toolbar, right after the attach key; its key says Save, and shows it is working while it saves.
- Pictures in a changed comment sit in their own tiles and no longer spill over its words.
- The kit's Loaders page shows every wait the app has, side by side.
1.12.1 2026-10-19
Back where you were, and comments changed with ease.
- Signing in takes you back to where you were — the board, note or settings page you last had open, on any device. Every move is remembered now, not only some.
- Changing a comment on a computer: it opens in a larger box at the foot of the comments, its pictures and files with it, the comments scrolled to the end above it. While it saves, the box shows it is working.
- Pictures open whole: a tall picture is no longer cut off at the top and bottom. The file preview fills its window, its name, size and buttons floating over it; full screen on a computer fits the screen's height.
- After saving on a phone the page no longer stays dimmed: the spelling check shows over the writing screen.
1.11.0 2026-10-19
Your 12 words, your wallet, and a way back in — the same as driveX.
- Recovery phrase in Settings: make your 12 words, or bring ones you have. Keep them with a passkey, a password for this device, or just for now. They never leave your device.
- Can’t access your email? Sign in with your 12 words instead, then move your account to an email you can reach.
- Wallet in Settings, opened by the same 12 words: balance, an address to receive at, and payments you review before sending.
- Account backup: your boards and notes, sealed with your 12 words — kept on the server, and as a file for you. Restore it if the data is ever lost.
- Offline: when the database can’t be reached, your boards and notes come from this device, and edits are saved when it’s back.
1.10.56 2026-10-19
Chips and pills, lined up.
- Stage chips on a phone: the color line back beside each word; the count small and close by it.
- The chosen chip's white pill reaches across to the chips either side of it.
- A card's status pill starts its color line exactly under the title's first letter.
1.10.55 2026-10-19
The connection, explained.
- Press the Wi-Fi mark to see the connection: whether you're online, whether Outline is available, its version and when it was last checked — in plain words, with "Check again". Offline, it says plainly that changes won't be saved until you reconnect.
- Stage chips with their color line: each stage's line under its word on a phone (beside it on a desk), one solid line; the count small and raised just after the word. Larger words on a phone, every chip still on one line, the white pill as it was.
- Cards and chips on a desk: the cards as tightly padded as on a phone; the chips at their own width, together at the start of the line.
1.10.54 2026-10-19
Stages as chips that always fit.
- Notes and boards share one row of stage chips: All, then each stage or column with its dot and count; the one shown on a white pill that slides to the chip pressed. On a phone the row scales down so every chip fits on one line — nothing scrolls out of sight. Done is green.
- Changing stage shows the wait: the cards still showing carry the loading look and the site's loader works above them; the new cards ease in when ready.
- The header's label reads by its name alone (no #), the size of the chips; the count stays beside "Notes" on a phone, the connection mark beside search.
- Labels, Due, then the order at the right end of the "Add a note" line — on notes and boards alike.
- Tighter on a phone: "Add a note" right under the chips; less padding inside each card; a card's × as tall as the pin beside it.
- The assistant's corner key is hidden.
1.10.53 2026-10-19
Cards that line up, on a phone and a desk.
- A card's preview wears the open card's stage pill: the round stage key is gone; the pill, the pin and the × share one line, the title under them, flush left, the full width.
- The × always shown on a phone, a full 44px to press; the reminder due today in white on its orange pill, its bell seen again.
- Saving shows it is working: Save and Send carry the site's loader while the spelling is checked and the card or comment goes in.
- Back to the card you wrote: closing a note brings its header into view, where it was.
- On a desk: the comments' header holds still, level with the card's, its arrows centred and close either side of the rule; each comment's ⋮ under the window's close; nothing shows through under the stage line or above the header; the end-of-writing line runs side to side; pictures in a card a third smaller.
- ⋮ keys alike everywhere: no square or disc behind them — the dots darken.
- The writing toolbar on iPhone Safari stays at the screen's foot as you scroll.
1.10.52 2026-10-19
Writing on a phone that holds still.
- Edit mode stays up: a card on a phone opens straight onto its writing screen, and stays there through adding a step or a hidden field, ticking a step, opening labels or Due — only Save or the shrink key ends it. The caret comes back to where you were writing, always blinking.
- One toolbar that holds still: two-thirds its old height, no band of its own, in the same place with the caret in the words or not, the gap down to the keyboard filled. Save sleeps until something changes; a comment's toolbar is a file and Send.
- Due's calendar on the whole screen, back to writing once a day is picked; the labels pad closes with a swipe down, writing kept.
- Comments on a phone: sending one no longer leaves the page dark.
- Links and hidden fields: link pills lose their icon and their round corners; hidden-field chips match; both are tighter. A word typed after a link stays a word; the line being written stays above the toolbar.
- Every sideways row fades at the edge it has more past, so it reads as one to scroll.
- Ctrl+Enter saves a card as Save does, a hidden field or step being changed kept first.
- Labels update everywhere at once, several added together all kept.
- A file opens as large as the screen allows, edge to edge.
- Account safety, for administrators: whether the database answers, and per account whether a recovery phrase is set and when a backup was last saved — yes/no and dates only; recovery stays each person's own, with their words.
1.10.51 2026-10-18
Save, and the card stays where it was.
- The round key saves and closes: on the writing screen, pressed, a card's words are kept, their spelling checked where they changed, and the card closes.
- A note keeps its place: opened from a list sorted by when it was edited, it is not lifted to the top for being written in — once saved it is where it was, in its column.
- A comment said again is spell-checked too, as a new one is before it goes.
- The assistant's corner key steps aside while a card is open, off the card's own keys.
1.10.50 2026-10-18
Comments back on a desk.
- Comments show again on a desk: opened beside a card, the column of comments had shrunk to nothing since 1.10.47 — the card's foot, held at the window's bottom, had become the box they were placed in. They take the card's whole height again, their field at the column's foot.
- The end-of-writing bar, side to side: on a phone it runs the whole width of the screen; on a desk it spans the card's own column.
1.10.49 2026-10-18
One writing screen for cards and comments.
- A card opens to be written in, on a phone: tapped, it is the whole screen above the keyboard, the caret in its name — its words, steps, hidden fields and files there to write in, the shrink key in the top corner, the comments set aside.
- One toolbar, the same everywhere: a file, a step, a hidden field, labels, Due — in that order for a card's words, for every comment, and in the stage line on a desk — ending in the one round key: a card's words saved, a comment sent.
- Due works from the toolbar: its calendar opens over the writing screen, which stays; the caret goes back to the words after.
- Return is a new line, never a save: in the name it goes down to the end of the words; in the words it starts the next line. What is typed lands where the caret is, and the line being written stays above the toolbar.
- A bar marks the end of what is written: a line in the card's colour across it, above its hidden fields and the stage line.
1.10.48 2026-10-18
Writing on a phone, with the keyboard up.
- A card's words on a phone: tapped into, the card is in writing mode again — the comments step aside and the toolbar sits along the foot, just above the keyboard: a step, a hidden field, a file, labels, Due, and the whole screen.
- A comment on a phone: its field has the same toolbar under it — a file, the whole screen, and while a comment is being changed, the way to leave it as it was. The whole screen opens from its key, not by itself; there the toolbar is the screen's last line.
- Link pills read as pills: never underlined, pointed at or not.
1.10.47 2026-10-18
Links where they were written, hidden fields as chips, and a card that holds still on a desk.
- Links as pills, in their line: a web address in a card's words is a pill right where it was written — never moved, never the bare address. Words are typed around it; a finished or pasted address becomes one at once. Pressed, the pill opens the page; its link mark, or ⋯ › Edit, changes the address in place, the whole of it shown; ⋯ also copies or removes it (asked first).
- Hidden fields as chips: side by side on one line that scrolls sideways, just above the stage line. Pressed, a chip opens to show its value — and copies it, a toast saying so. Its name pressed, or ⋯ › Edit, and it is changed in place, the caret already in it.
- A card that holds still on a desk: the top line and the name stay put at the top; the hidden fields, the stage line and the comment field stay put at the foot; the words, steps and files scroll between them.
- Spelling checked in comments too, and labels suggested: a comment is checked before it is sent, as a card's words are on close; closing a card can add up to three labels that fit it, with a toast to say which.
- The stage bar walks the stages: the stage it is in, pressed again, steps on — To do, Doing, Done, then To do again.
- A reminder come due is done from its own pill: one check inside the reminder, no second key in the header.
- Due on the phone's writing toolbar, with the other keys.
- No more jumping to the bottom: tapping into long words on a phone keeps the line you tapped in view, and empty lines left at the start or end of the words go when you leave them.
- The connection shows in the top bar: a small Wi-Fi mark, struck through when offline — changes save when you are back.
1.10.46 2026-10-17
A reminder swiped away.
- Swipe a reminder sideways to close it: it follows the finger, fading as it goes, and let go past a short way it slides off; short of that it settles back. Up and down still turn the stack of reminders.
1.10.45 2026-10-17
Every file a tile.
- Files that are not pictures, in the picture's square: a PDF, a spreadsheet, a slide deck shows what it is — PDF, XLSX, PPTX — in the middle of the same tile a picture takes, its name with it: on the card, under a comment, and in the comment being written. Pressed, it opens as a picture does.
1.10.44 2026-10-17
Spelling checked as a card closes, and files dropped on its comments.
- Spelling, checked on close: a note or a card whose words changed is checked once as it closes — where the assistant is set up. Any correction is shown first, the old words struck through and the new ones marked: Accept writes them, Keep mine leaves the card as written. Nothing to correct, and it simply closes.
- Files dropped on the comments: any kind — a PDF, a slide deck, a picture — goes with the comment being written, a dashed ring saying the comments will take it; dropped anywhere else on the card, it is the card's.
1.10.43 2026-10-17
A new note where you are looking, links as blocks, and titles that fit.
- A new note starts in the stage on show: made in To do, it is a To do note — and closed, the desk scrolls to it and lights it. A new card on a board is lit where it landed, the same.
- Every link a block to press: a page with no picture or title of its own — or one that could not be read — still becomes a block: its site, and which page on it, opening in a new tab.
- Titles that fit their card: a word too long for the card makes the title smaller, never under reading size; past that it breaks rather than being cut. The reminder fan shares the same fit.
- The keys beside Add a note and Add a card on a desk too, as on a phone; the tabs keep their row.
1.10.42 2026-10-17
One page frame for every page.
- One width, one margin: every page's side space comes from the theme — the page column, the gutter (phone to desk) and the rail for the Outline mark — not from a value typed again in thirty places. Notes, a board's list, columns and timeline, Boards, the dashboard and Settings now start and end at the same place, on a desk and on a phone.
- No page scrollbar taking width: a board scrolls without a bar of its own, as the notes always have, so the two never sit a few pixels apart.
- A board's keys beside Add a card on a phone, as the notes' are beside Add a note; the column chips keep their row.
1.10.41 2026-10-17
Pictures that fill their cards, and every key on the row it belongs to.
- Sorting a board: Arranged by you, Due soonest, Newest, Oldest or Name — beside Labels, kept on the device; in the list done cards stay last, and on the columns a card is held still while another order is picked.
- Pictures large or small: a key at the row's end turns a board's pictures into wide tiles or a row of small squares — in the list, the columns and the timeline.
- Pictures fill the card: a lone picture spans the card's width at 16:9, no blank half beside it; on a desk the list reads in two columns, the words top-left and the picture on the right.
- The timeline shows the pictures under each card's bar, held at the left edge while the days scroll.
- Keys on the tabs' row: on Notes and on a board's list, the labels, the order and the date keys sit at the right end of the stages' or columns' row; short of room, they show their marks. On a phone, the notes' keys go to the right of Add a note.
- Show by date on Notes: Overdue, Due this week, No date — by each note's reminder, the board's own key.
- A picture dropped on a card keeps showing itself from the drop until the stored copy has loaded — no grey tile in between.
- Fixed — rename from the menu: the menu took the caret back as it closed and the name's field shut unchanged; a menu now gives it back only when nothing else has taken it.
- Fixed — pages shifting sideways: a page too short to scroll no longer moves by the scrollbar's width.
1.10.40 2026-10-17
One card, one header, one width — and emails decided where sharing is.
- Boards share the notes' header: a board's bar is the notes bar — its name and how many cards, + for a new card, search, the day, ⋮ and you; labels, dates and the timeline at the end of the second row, the column chips beside them.
- One page width: every page — notes, boards, a board, settings, admin — reads in the same column, one token for it; a board's list, timeline and columns line up with the bar, and nothing scrolls sideways.
- Board cards are note cards: one card window and one comments thread for both, no variants.
- Cards rearranged in their column: dragged up or down, a card takes its new place — to the very top too — and is lit there when let go.
- Notes dragged to the top of a long desk: held near the top or the bottom of the screen, the page scrolls under the note, faster the nearer the edge. Let go from the phone's map, the page scrolls to the note and lights it.
- The progress bar, a segment a stage: pressed, the card is in that stage exactly, its segment filled in its colour; the line above names it — To do, Doing, Done — with the steps counted. Moved from its window, the desk lights the stage's tab.
- Quick keys beside the calendar: add a step, a hidden field, a file or labels from a row that scrolls; the ⋮ menus consolidated; files of any kind dropped on a card, each with the picture's preloader.
- Reminders: the Reminder key on every card opens its pull-down; once set it reads its date alone. Several at once stack as a fan that turns on its own — tap one open; on a phone the front one in full.
- Comments: Enter makes a new line, the send key sends; editing a comment uses the composer, full screen on a phone; the field sits at the frame's foot; "N comments" in the header; the icons all one size.
- A note held on a phone shows a map of every note — each in its own colour, its stage as a dot — and goes where it is let go. Pulled down, a window or a menu closes.
- Emails, decided in Share: each board's and note's emails are switched in its Share window, every one on to begin with — reminders too; email links open the note or board by its id, signed in, whatever it is renamed.
- Share window: Add appears once the address is a real one; one size and weight of type; the email switches as rows with their pills.
- Hidden fields: Save with the name or value empty marks the empty one with a red glow.
- Boards page: which boards — all, pinned, shared — chosen from one quiet key.
- A darker lightbox behind every window, so nothing behind it shows through as a band.
- Fixed — an emailed note that said "Not here": a sign-in link that could not be used now falls back to the session you have, or offers the sign-in.
1.10.39 2026-10-13
Pictures on the cards, and samples from real life.
- A board card shows its pictures: under its name, two to a row — in the list and in the columns, as a note's card does. One pressed opens the card.
- Pictures for everybody on public notes and boards: a public note's card shows its photos signed out, and a public card's files open for anyone.
- Samples from real life: a monthly budget, a trip to Lisbon, a 40th birthday, the holiday season and a house move as public boards; birthdays, a meal plan and learning guitar as public notes — each with its photos.
1.10.38 2026-10-13
Open to everyone: the app itself, signed out — and a sign-in that cannot be taken down by a schema.
- Signed out, the app itself: the dashboard, Notes and Boards under the app's own bar, with every note and board opened to everyone — and Sign in where you would be. What Outline is, its facts and questions, under the dashboard.
- Change anything, keep nothing: a visitor ticks steps, edits, comments, drags cards, adds columns — all in the page. The first change offers the sign-in; after that a standing line says nothing is saved.
- Public boards: People and sharing → Direct link → Private or Public, the owner's to pick. A public board opens for anybody, read in the page; its hidden fields, people and roles stay with it.
- Demo notes: every part of a note, explained in notes of its own on the public dashboard.
- The sample board retired, and the landing page's board demo with it.
- A desk card's type closer together: the name 30px, its words 24px, labels at reading size — a phone keeps its own.
- Fixed — the API failing for everyone: the database migration sent one request per change, past what one Worker call may send; a database another build had touched then failed every request. Now it reads what is there in one request and runs only what is missing.
1.10.37 2026-10-13
Pictures seen properly, and a card's conversation in its foot.
- A picture opened full screen: from its window, a key opens it over the whole screen — pinch to zoom, drag to move, double-tap to zoom in or back; a tap or Escape closes it. Centred, and never opening the card behind it.
- A card's own files, larger: on the list, two to a row; in its window, two tiles to a row.
- The comments' pictures in the card's foot: a row that scrolls sideways, the comment count the last box.
- A picture on its way shows itself at once in its tile, a thin spinner and its percent over it.
- Pictures without a file ending open as pictures.
1.10.36 2026-10-13
Writing on a phone, one field at a time — and fewer requests.
- Fewer requests: a card's window no longer asks every 8 seconds (its live stream says when it changed); the live visits only on Analytics; "opened your note" every 2 minutes and never from a tab in the background; open notes' streams twice as long; the sweep every 5 minutes.
- The comment field, full screen on a phone: pressed, it is the whole visible screen above the keyboard; sent, it closes and you land where you were. A comment said again opens the same way, its keys in the same places.
- One place for the comment field at a card's foot on a phone, open thread or not, and nothing showing through it.
- The card's type: its words, steps, hidden fields, comments and progress line one step under its name (Title, bold) — in the window and on the list alike.
- One more key (⋮) for a comment's and a hidden field's copy, edit and delete; simpler copy, edit and archive marks.
- Labels: the picker on the page's ground with the sign-in's field; full screen on a phone with Done; tapping a label on a card opens it; the list's label filter is the same picker now. A label typed with an "s" no longer turns it into "-", and a label ending in "-" can be hidden and taken off.
- Paste a picture into a card or a comment and it is attached. Fix spelling (Ask) puts a card's spelling right, with Undo.
- Reactions show the moment they are pressed. A picture pressed on a card in the list opens by itself. Pictures on their way turn a thin spinner in their frame.
- Smaller things: the stage shown on a round pill; the delete window's picture on white, its key "Delete", no line above any window's keys; counts small and raised in the comment field; the faces of who a note is shared with flush right.
1.10.35 2026-10-12
A steadier sign-in, and live updates that cannot run away.
- Live updates that hold back: a live stream that ends at once — the server failing inside it — waits before it opens again, five seconds and doubling to two minutes, instead of reopening several times a second from every open tab.
- The sign-in window as the page's sign-in: the page's ground, the same small switch, the same white prompt with its key inside.
- One field at a time: with a password, the address first; then it is held above — a back arrow to change it — and the password asked for alone.
- One height: the window keeps its height between the two ways in, the two steps and a problem said under the field.
1.10.34 2026-10-12
The filter in force, beside the title.
- Picked from the more key, shown by the title: Reminders, Archived, Pinned or Shared, once picked, sits as its mark just after Notes — on a phone and a desk alike. Pressed, the filter lets go and the mark goes with it.
- One place for reminders: the bell is in the more key on a desk too, and beside the title while it is in force, in its orange.
- Nothing moves: the mark is centred on the title's line, no taller than it, so the + and the keys keep their places.
1.10.33 2026-10-12
A quieter notes bar.
- The + in the middle: a new note, centred in the bar on a phone and a desk alike; search, the month, a more key and you at the end.
- The more key (⋮): Reminders, Archived, Pinned and Shared, each with how many — one at a time, picked again for every note. The key is inked while one is in force. A desk keeps the bell in the bar too.
- No All: nothing picked is every note. The title stays Notes and counts every note.
- Labels and the order under the stages: Labels at the start, the order at the end; they fold away with the scroll as the stages stay.
- Taller stages, and a filter that finds nothing says so, with the way back to every note.
1.10.32 2026-10-12
A boards page, and comments that sit right on a phone.
- /boards: every board on its own page, as /notes is the notes'. The dashboard's Show all goes there; /newboard still answers.
- The card's window fills the phone: no white strip under it once the keyboard goes or the toolbars fold.
- Comments only, on a phone: the comment field stays at the foot, the thread above it.
- Editing a comment: the card fills its window, and the tick keeps the edit.
- Pictures and previews in comments start where the words do, beside the tick.
- Deleting a file: the question and the picture, on black — no note between them.
- Counts beside their names: All, Archived, Pinned, Shared and the stages carry their numbers small and raised, just after the word.
1.10.31 2026-10-12
Email buttons that let you in, and analytics laid out like Search Console.
- Buttons that sign you in: "Open the card" in a due-date email, and the button in a note's reminder, open the card or note and sign you in on the way — single use, for seven days, as an invitation's. The due-date button now opens the card on its board.
- Analytics, revised: a span from today to twelve months, the figures against the span before, the days as bars, then one table per subject — sortable, filterable, paged, downloadable — with a visit's details in the admin's own rows.
- Admin at full width on a desk: Overview, People and Analytics take the page's width; nothing scrolls sideways.
1.10.30 2026-10-11
Stages on the page itself.
- No ground behind the stages: the stage tabs sit straight on the page; only the stage shown keeps its white pill.
1.10.29 2026-10-11
Notes by stage.
- Stage tabs: Notes, To do, Doing and Done sit under All on the notes page, each with its colour line and how many in its corner. Press one to see only that stage, press it again for all. The white pill slides to the stage picked, and the choice is kept with the account.
- Held at the top: scroll a long list and the header and the stages stay; the shelf row folds away and eases back at the top. With the month open on a phone, the stages sit right under it and hold just below the header too.
- Counts in the corner: the header's count sits small and grey at the title's corner, as the stages' do.
- The shelf from side to side: All, Archived, Pinned, Shared and the labels and order keys spread evenly across the row.
- Progress on every desk card: the stage line shows on Notes cards too.
- A friendlier error: when the server can't be reached, a toast says so and offers Try again.
- Sign-in check: the email's key appears only once the address is real, as a round green check.
1.10.28 2026-10-11
Three choices stacked, and links that step aside in comments.
- Three choices, one under the other: a window with three keys (Archive, Delete, Cancel) stacks them full width — the first on top, the way out at the bottom.
- Links in comments: once a comment's link shows its preview, the bare address steps aside — in a ticked comment too, as in the card's words.
1.10.27 2026-10-11
A new note opens once.
- No flash on a new note: a note being made keeps its one window while it gets its id, so it is drawn once — no second window opening over the first as it settles. Another note opened from a reminder's toast still takes its place.
1.10.26 2026-10-11
Every part of an email goes one place.
- One link: the four apps at an email's foot go where the whole card goes — the email's one link, its sign-in with it — so everything in the card does the one thing the email asks.
- No labels, titles too: a label in a note's or a card's name is left out of the subject and the words as well.
- A softer button: the big button eases into its orange and back, no snap.
1.10.25 2026-10-11
Quieter, tidier emails.
- No labels: an email carries what a note says, not how it is filed — labels are left out of every email, its words and its picture alike.
- A smaller heading: "A reminder. Sunday, October 11" and every email's heading are set smaller than the item under them.
- One size for a card's words: the line that said what you can do (view, comment) is the card's own grey second line, the size of every card's words; a card with no title of its own reads its words in ink, as a heading.
- The four at the foot: the apps under the button are quieter and smaller, evenly spaced, with less room under them — the calendar is the dated card's own page and the fourth is the reminders' bell. The reminder's bell is the app's orange.
- Orange under the pointer: the big button and the four apps light the kit's orange where a mail app honours it.
1.10.24 2026-10-11
The reminder's bell in its own colour.
- An orange bell: an active reminder's bell is white on the reminder's orange — waiting, and once due beside its green check.
1.10.23 2026-10-11
Reminders that ring until they are done, colours as worn, and a tighter card.
- Reminders ring until done: a reminder come due pops up again every ten minutes until it is turned off on its card — the bell and a green check joined into one pill, as the stage pill shows Public. The check turns it off and says so, with Undo. In the reminder's menu, Return sets a chosen date and time.
- Colours as worn: every swatch is the card's own tint, the tint it will be painted; the picked one is marked by an inner edge, no halo. All greens are mixed from one green per look.
- A tighter card: the note's side keeps together under its words, the tools key sits at the right end of the labels' row, Hide notes is a round key like the others, the comments' line stands level with the header, and the comment field's keys have even room.
- Menus stay on the screen: a menu wider than expected slides back in from the edge.
1.10.22 2026-10-11
One way of waiting, everywhere — and stages drawn as lines.
- One wait: every page waits the same way — its own top bar, its title and shelf where they will be, then the desk's breathing card shapes on the page's own ground. The page that takes over draws the same, so nothing moves or changes colour as it arrives.
- Inside a card: the comments on their way are their own breathing shapes, no dots spinning beside them, and their count shows from the start.
- Stages as lines: a stage's mark is one solid short line — on the card's stage chip and in the menu of stages alike.
- The note's top line: with the comments open beside it on a desk, it runs to its column's edge.
1.10.21 2026-10-11
Picture tiles, a Return mark on Done, and a sign-in that reads like a prompt.
- Picture tiles: a picture on a card is one tile — the picture fills it, its name and size at its foot, its cross in the corner (on a desk, shown while the tile is pointed at, red under the pointer). Pictures lie side by side; other files keep their rows.
- Done says Return: on a desk, the green Done shows the Return mark — Ctrl + Enter (⌘ + Return) does the same; on a phone, the check.
- Stages as lines: in the menu of stages, each stage's mark is one solid short bar.
- Sign in, as a prompt: a locked page asks in the middle — one line, a quiet line, one field with its key inside.
- Reminders open on top: opening a note from a reminder's toast while another card is open shows that note's card, on top.
1.10.20 2026-10-11
A card that opens at once, and a phone keyboard that never covers what you write.
- Opens at once: a note's card opens straight away on what the list already knows, the window and its backdrop in one short fade — no loader, no second flash, no settling. Hidden fields are drawn by name from the start, so nothing moves as their values arrive.
- Above the keyboard: on a phone, a card's window stands on the keyboard and fills only what can be seen; writing at the end of the words, the field grows upward, the line being written kept just above the keys.
- The comment field fits: with the keyboard up, the comment field — its pictures, words and keys — always fits the screen that is left; the clip stays at the left and the send key at the right as it grows. Editing a comment, the field steps aside.
- Pictures in comments show whole, in their own shape, sized to the screen.
- Signed out: "Sign in to see your notes. They stay private until you share them."
1.10.19 2026-10-11
The card's header keys stay by the corner.
- Keys by the close: on a desk, a card's header keys sit against its corner close, and slide left only as the close becomes the wider Done (Ctrl + Enter) — no gap held for it before.
1.10.18 2026-10-11
Pictures that load once, a centred white loader, and Done that says its keys.
- Pictures load once: a picture's address is kept once it has one, so refreshing the notes or the comments no longer downloads the same picture again; a thumbnail pressed on the desk opens in the viewer on the very picture already shown — and opens even where the card does not list it.
- The loader: white, in the middle of the screen, and the card only fades in after it — no second rise or scale.
- Done says its keys: on a desk, the green Done in a card's corner reads Ctrl + Enter (⌘ + Return on a Mac); the header's keys keep clear of it.
- Writing a card's name no longer moves its foot.
1.10.17 2026-10-10
Long cards stay writable, and a card loads in its own lightbox.
- Nothing over the line you write: writing a long card, its foot — labels, reactions, the comment field — leaves the window's bottom edge for the card's end, so the words being written are never under it; back at the edge once the writing stops.
- One lightbox: a note on its way shows the card window's own dimmed backdrop with only the loader in it, and the card opens in its place without the backdrop fading in twice.
1.10.16 2026-10-10
Link previews on the note cards.
- Previews on the desk: a note with a link shows the same preview card on the desk as in its window — the page's picture and title — and once it shows, the bare address leaves the card's words. Pressing the preview opens the link, not the note.
- No false hint: a note whose words are only a previewed link no longer reads "Add details" in its window.
1.10.15 2026-10-10
A card that opens once, whole — with its comments on a desk, the caret in its name and the progress line on the desk.
- Opens whole: a note's card waits for its comments, hidden fields and files, the site's loader meanwhile, then opens in its final shape — nothing grows or jumps after. Whether the comments show is decided once, as it opens.
- Comments on a desk: a card with comments opens with them beside the note; the comment field at rest is a full line at the card's foot, no longer an empty column.
- The caret in the name: on a desk, a card opens with the caret at the end of its name.
- The progress line on the desk: a note card shows the card window's own progress line — its stage, its steps, its priority — in place of the status words.
- Links: once a link's preview shows, the bare address steps aside (it is back while writing); the preview leads with the page's title.
- Due month: the Due calendar marks the days that hold notes and the days notes fall due.
- Quieter comments: a comment's name, time and keys are small, as a chat keeps them; on a desk the keys show on the comment pointed at.
- Small things: labels and the comment count show a hover; an empty card's hint is darker; fewer placeholders while a card loads.
1.10.14 2026-10-10
A comment field you type straight into, one board demo for the landing page and the app, and smaller labels.
- Type straight in: a card's Write a comment is a real field at its foot — tap and type, no thread opening first. Sent, the thread opens above it with the comment in view; the count in its bubble opens the thread any time. A draft stays put either way.
- One board demo: the landing page's Try a board and the kit now draw the app's own board tiles, board list and card window on sample data — the hand-drawn copy is gone. Pressing a card opens the real card.
- Smaller labels: labels and their # a third smaller, one size, on the desk and in the card.
1.10.13 2026-10-10
Note cards cut like board covers, with their words and pictures — and a calmer card while you write.
- Cards like covers: a note on the desk wears a board cover's round corners and room, its tone as the tint, and a thin bar for how far its steps are. Every key stays.
- Its words and pictures: under the name, the note's own words in reading ink, up to three lines; then the newest pictures it holds — its files and its comments' — as small squares. Pressing one opens the card where the picture is and shows it.
- Quiet labels: labels are plain words in the muted ink, no chip, on one line that scrolls sideways when there are more.
- Due as a day: a card's Due is the calendar key's day mark — the date over its week — quiet until a date is set; the full date is its name.
- Writing on a phone: only the field being written shows, and the card keeps its height; a desktop window keeps everything. Comments open again after writing.
- Pinned stay in place: pinned notes keep their place in All; the Pinned tab gathers them.
1.10.12 2026-10-09
On a phone, the comment field sits at the foot of the card.
- No half-empty card: with the comments open on a phone, the sheet takes the screen and the comment field now sits at its foot, as a chat's does — the card and its comments from the top. A new, short card no longer shows the field halfway up a white sheet.
1.10.11 2026-10-09
One edit outline for comments, steps and hidden fields — and comments that open on a new card.
- One mark for editing: a step and a hidden field being edited wear the comment's own outline — a thin green line round the whole of it, nothing inside moving. The pills are gone; an edited hidden field shows Name and Value when empty.
- Comments open on a new card: on a phone, the first tap on Write a comment opens the comments, even as the new card's name lets go and the page moves under the finger.
- The count closes them: the › beside Hide notes is gone; the comment count at the head's right end closes the comments, a thumb's reach around it.
1.10.10 2026-10-09
Deleting a step or a hidden field asks first.
- Yes or no, then a way back: the × on a step or a hidden field asks first — "Delete this step?", Yes, delete or No — and nothing goes until it is said. Once gone, a toast says so with Undo, a third chance.
- Kit: a confirmation can name its second answer ("No"); every other one still says Cancel.
1.10.9 2026-10-09
Every menu a list, every field being edited one pill — and hidden fields that read clearly.
- Menus are lists: the card's ⋮ and its tools ⋮ open the kit's one popover — a list, top to bottom, never cut off by the card. The tools ⋮ sits in the card's body under the steps, where what it adds appears; Labels fourth, Ask's four choices under their own heading, each tool with its true mark. "Change card color" reads Background color.
- Added at once: Add a step saves "New step" and Add a hidden field saves "New field" straight away, opened with the words selected to type over. Deleting either says so in a toast, with Undo.
- Hidden fields, one shape: the name on top, the value below, the keys always at the right — adding, editing, hidden or shown, on a phone and a desk. A click anywhere on the row reveals it; editing shows the value as it is typed or pasted, hidden again once saved; an empty field says Empty; nothing moves between reading and editing.
- One active field: every field edited in place — a hidden field's name and value, a step — is a soft pill, a thin green ring where the caret is.
- The caret where it belongs: Labels opens ready to type; a popover finds its field even when it is drawn a moment late.
- No stray comments: the card's keys no longer take focus, so a press cannot land on the comment field and open it; writing the card on a phone hides the comment field until you stop.
- Tidier: labels and reactions share one line; the Notes · Public pill's parts and the copy, edit and delete keys sit closer.
1.10.8 2026-10-09
The shelves keep their own counts.
- No more trading numbers: switching between All and Archived, the chips showed each other's counts — All 5, Archived 16 — until the other shelf arrived. Each list now knows which shelf it holds, so every chip and the title count the right shelf from the first moment.
1.10.7 2026-10-09
Comments, edited where they read — and words marked as you select them.
- Edit in place: double-click a comment, or double-tap it on a phone, and its words become editable exactly where they stood, the caret where you tapped, nothing moving. A green outline says it is being edited; the window's corner turns into the green check, which keeps it — so does Ctrl+Return. Return is a new line.
- Marks on selection: select words and a small bar offers bold, italic, strike, a list, a to-do, code and a link — over the words on a desk, docked above the keyboard on a phone. An address can be opened in a new tab. Comments show the marks.
- Nothing jumps: Return and marks no longer scroll the conversation; the note keeps its place while comments load, and they fade in.
- The comments' head: Hide notes and a › to fold the comments on the left, the count in its bubble on the right; on a phone, the expand mark alone.
- Pictures before they go: files added to a comment show as tiny thumbnails inside the field, each with its own cross.
- Tidier: the send key stays at the right under several lines; the tick dot sits level with a comment's first letter; inline code is a quiet tint, not a ring.
- Kit: the marks bar, a link icon and desk/phone variants are kit pieces.
1.10.6 2026-10-09
The dashboard, laid out as the notes page is — and search right there.
- As wide as the notes page: the dashboard's column is the notes page's own width on a desk.
- The notes page's measures: cards 12px apart, 14px 16px inside, 18px corners, the one soft shadow; the notes sit on the page's own ground, with no panel behind them, and the lists have no card behind them.
- Search on the dashboard: the magnifier opens the notes' own search over the dashboard — the same field, chips and results, the archive included — instead of leaving the page. A note picked opens over it.
- One list of results: the notes page and the dashboard draw the same search results.
1.10.5 2026-10-09
One top bar in every section, and the dashboard shows your notes as they are.
- One top bar everywhere: Notes, the dashboard, boards, settings and admin draw the same bar — the section's name and count, its own keys in the middle, the day and you at the end, and its shelves underneath.
- The dashboard's notes, as cards: the Notes panel shows the notes themselves, as the notes page draws them — what is due this week first, then the last touched. Steps tick, pins and colours change, and deleting asks first with Archive offered.
- Every board, as tiles: /newboard shows each board as a tinted tile, narrowed to the pinned or the shared, found by name; the dashboard's Show all goes there. New board asks its name in the app's one pop-up.
- New note from the dashboard opens it: the blank note opens at once, in development too.
- Kit: the top bar and a list of note cards are kit pieces, shown on /kit/controls.
1.10.4 2026-10-09
A new dashboard: how things stand, then one panel for notes and one for boards.
- /dashboard, rebuilt: a greeting and how things stand, one fact a line; a Notes panel — the count, pinned and reminders, what is due next, the last notes touched; a Boards panel below — the count, cards open, its bar, each board as one line. Notes and boards never share a panel. /dash still opens it.
- The apps' own marks: each panel's figure carries the notes and boards marks the emails draw, in the same grey.
- New note and New board: New note opens a blank note in its full window; New board asks its name in the app's one pop-up, then opens the board. Show all goes to your boards.
- An empty new note, closed, leaves no trace: Back no longer lands on a note that is gone.
- Lines that fit a phone: a long name gives way with an ellipsis, so the time beside it stays whole; facts break between one another, never inside one; today's reminders say just the time.
- The card's tools key is the same ⋮ as the card's own menu.
- Notes · Public: the inner pill sits centred in the orange.
- Kit: the dashboard's parts — group, list, line, link key, hello, meter, stat — are kit pieces, shown on /kit/controls.
1.10.3 2026-10-09
Where the work is, finer on a desk.
- One quiet line a board: its name, a compact row of small dots — a fixed size, no longer stretched across the card — and its figure. A phone keeps the dots across the row under the name.
1.10.2 2026-10-09
In Analytics, only the row under the pointer is underlined.
- One underline at a time: pointing at a list in Admin, Analytics underlined every row in it; now only the row the pointer is on.
- Backups kept out of git: a backups folder for database copies, ignored, as they hold personal data.
1.10.1 2026-10-09
A visit's IP address, for administrators; the card's more key as three stacked dots.
- The IP address of a visit: kept with the visit, for 90 days, and shown to administrators in a visit's details; deleted with the visit, never in the daily totals. A browser that asks not to be tracked is still not counted at all. The privacy page says so.
- The card's more key: three dots stacked, plain, in the header's ink.
1.10.0 2026-10-09
A note archived or restored leaves its shelf at once.
- No reload to see it go: archived from its window, a note stayed on All until the page was reloaded. Every change to a note — from its window, its own keys, a shelf it was dropped on — now reaches the page one way: a note that no longer belongs on the shelf in view moves to the other at once, and the counts with it; any other change is put in place.
1.9.9 2026-10-09
A card's actions in one ⋯; search reaches the archive; a toast opens what it is about.
- The card's ⋯: colour, pin, reminder, share, archive and delete in one menu, Delete last, red and set apart. What is in force stays in sight in the header — the colour, the pin, the bell, the faces, archived — as it was. The ⋯ is bold dots on a soft tile.
- Delete set apart in every menu: a fine rule and a little room above it.
- Search reaches everything: archived notes are found from any tab, marked with the archive's sign and "Archived". A search opened inside a tab still searches inside it until its chip is taken off.
- One key in the search field: the × clears what is there; with nothing there, it closes. "Clear" is gone.
- A toast about a note opens it: archived, restored, pinned or brought back — the toast names the note, and pressing its words opens it.
- One green for Done: the check, the bar and the stage mark in the header; the bar no longer fades.
- Reactions without pills: the emoji and its count; yours in full ink.
- The shelves closer together on a phone.
1.9.8 2026-10-09
A reminder's Open opens its note; reactions as quiet as the labels.
- Open on a reminder opens that note: with another note already open, the window stayed on it — Open changed only the address. The note itself is handed to the window now, as a card pressed on the page is. The same for "someone opened your note".
- Reactions like the labels beside them: the same light tint, size and weight; yours wears a thin ring rather than a grey block.
1.9.7 2026-10-09
The card's + in one place; its tools on its own line; stages drawn as small bars.
- The card's + is always in one place: the right end of its labels-and-reactions row, over the send key, on a phone and a desk, comments open or not. Its tools open on that same line, over the labels and reactions beside it — nothing moves, nothing opens above — and the + (turned ×) folds them. They start folded everywhere.
- Labels on one line: side by side, scrolling sideways, fading at the ends. On a phone they run edge to edge across the card; on a desk they share the line with the reactions and the +.
- The reminder is a key: a bell in the card's icon row, third — after colour and pin — orange once set.
- Stages as small bars: the stage chip and its menu show a short bar for each stage, filled to where the card is, in the stage's colour — Done all green.
- Tighter: the progress bar sits close under its line, the foot close under the bar; an empty files part takes no room.
- On the desk of notes: a card's colour dot is the size of its step circles, sunk so it reads as a different key; its due date sits under its name in ink, the bell orange; long links wrap inside the card.
- Comments alone (Expand) keep their field.
1.9.6 2026-10-09
Visits as they happen come from the analytics plugin too.
- The live visit toasts are the plugin's: following the stream, catching up after a phone sleeps, a burst said once — now from vau7t/plugins (analytics), said through the kit's toasts with Details opening Admin, Analytics. Nothing changes in what is said.
1.9.5 2026-10-09
The + belongs to the note; the comment field is a composer; the send arrow shows.
- The note's +, on the note: at the start of its labels row. Its tools open as a tray just above, over what is there — nothing moves, nothing changes height. In the comments there is no +.
- On a desk with comments open, the tools keep their own room at the foot of the note's column, open or folded, clear of the note's words.
- The comment field as a composer: the paperclip at its start, the words, the send key at its end — in the same places at rest and open.
- The send arrow always shows: light on the dark key with something to send, white on a soft grey disc while empty. On a desk it had gone dark on dark.
- The analytics dashboard is the plugin's too (vau7t/plugins, analytics): drawn with the kit's own window, loader and reveal.
1.9.4 2026-10-09
The progress bar says it is pressed.
- It fills as a card opens: one sweep from the left, like a loading bar.
- The next stage hints: a moment later the segment the card can move to deepens its tint twice, then rests. Nothing grows or moves; still for anyone who asks for less motion.
1.9.3 2026-10-09
The progress line carries the card's facts and its phase's colour; analytics runs from its own plugin.
- The progress bar in the phase's colour: To do blue, Doing violet, Done green — the colour of the stage's dot, changing as the bar is tapped. Done's chip at the top is the same green as its check.
- Priority and due date on the progress line: at its right end in every state, so the due date never moves. The stage is said by the chip at the top and the bar, not again in words.
- The due date, plain: words with the calendar in the reminder's orange; unset, quiet words. No pill.
- A due date starts a note: set on a note still in its notes, the note moves to the first stage.
- Analytics is a plugin: the counting, its rules, routes, beacon and edge hook now come from vau7t/plugins (analytics), the one copy any application can use. Nothing changes in what is counted or kept.
1.9.2 2026-10-09
Analytics counts yesterday before the morning; one composer for comments; one way to show loading.
- Analytics counted yesterday as nothing until 07:00 UTC: the report read past days only from the morning roll-up. Any day not rolled up yet is now counted from the raw visits, in the totals, the day-by-day bars and the comparison.
- A visit's details, in the kit's list: each fact on its line, its name on the left and its value on the right. "Signed in" says Yes, a member, or No, a visitor.
- One composer: + Write a comment, the clip, the send key — the card's tools open from the + inside the field, which turns to × to fold them. Nothing floats over the field any more.
- The conversation's head says what it is: "Comments" and its count, with Expand (or Show note) and Close in words, where the "Hide notes" bar and the field's × were.
- Held in place: the field at rest, loading and open lines up exactly, so nothing moves as comments arrive or the field opens.
- Loading, one way: a comment field, a card's files, a conversation and every picture on its way wear the kit's loading style; a card's files hold a row for themselves rather than filling in later.
- The file viewer says to download a file it cannot show, now that New tab is gone.
1.9.1 2026-10-08
A card's progress in one bar; the keys step back from the words.
- One bar for where a card is: its stage and its steps together — a segment a stage, the one it is in filling as steps are ticked, with a soft shimmer while it is under way. One line above says it: "Doing · 2/4 steps". It replaces the count and the To do · Doing · Done buttons.
- Started from the bar: in a note's Notes phase the bar is empty; a tap on it starts the first stage. A segment tapped moves the card there.
- Done, confirmed: a green check arrives with a ring the moment a card is done; the bar stays, full and dimmed.
- One size for every chip: stages, reactions, the reminder and the dates are the facts' size, and the line above the bar holds one row in every state.
- The keys a step back: chips, labels and reactions in a softer ink so the title and the words lead; the + and the comment field's × are glyphs alone, the + over the send key.
- The stage said once at the top, not again under the words.
1.9.0 2026-10-08
A step's words open its note; only the ring ticks it.
- On the notes page, the ring ticks a step: pressing a step's words opens the note, as pressing anywhere else on it does; the ring alone ticks and unticks, with a thumb-sized reach around it.
1.8.9 2026-10-08
Deleting a comment shows the files that go with it; the viewer keeps one way out.
- A comment's files, shown before they go: deleting a comment with files lists each one in the question — its picture or the clip, its name and size — marked as deleted from storage. The button says just Delete.
- The file viewer: Delete and Download. New tab is gone; the viewer already shows the file.
1.8.8 2026-10-08
The comment field stays at the bottom; search finds files; a file shows itself before it goes.
- The comment field stays put: in a conversation it is fixed at the card's foot however far you scroll, on a phone and on a desk, and stays after sending. The scroll-to-top key is gone.
- The field's cross sits outside its corner: however many lines the comment grows to, it no longer runs into them.
- Bigger pictures on comments and cards: thumbnails twice the size.
- A long title keeps its width: the start and due dates wrap under it instead of squeezing it to a letter a line.
- Search finds file names: on notes and on comments, and opens the note where the match is. Clear empties the search and keeps it open; the grey square at the field's corner is gone.
- Delete from the file viewer: a red Delete in the viewer asks first, showing the picture of the file; once done, the toast names the object deleted from storage by its full path.
- Files are kept by person: new uploads go into a folder named by their owner's account at the top of the bucket.
- The bell no longer covers Archived in the notes bar on a phone.
1.8.7 2026-10-08
Drop a note on a shelf; the + says what it is; hidden fields change in place.
- Drag a note onto a shelf: held over Archived, Pinned, Shared or All, the shelf lights; let go, and the note itself changes — archived (with Undo), pinned, brought back, or its Share window opened. With a mouse, or held and dragged with a thumb.
- The card's tools, open on a desk: the whole row from the start; on a phone, the folded + — and the first few times, three soft pulses and "Add · Ask" beside it, gone by itself.
- Hidden fields can be changed: a pencil on each opens its name and value in place, the value still hidden until the eye shows it; the check keeps it, Escape leaves it.
1.8.6 2026-10-08
The card's fold key is always within reach.
- On a narrow phone, the tools scroll in their own row: they no longer run under the key that folds them away, which stays in its place and always takes a tap.
1.8.5 2026-10-08
A reminder's stamp, plainer; its bell in one orange.
- The stamp reads as a bell: smaller dots, more of the bell, lower on the card and fainter — in the reminder's orange, as its outline.
- One orange for a reminder: its line on the card and its bell — and the reminder key in the bar — wear the outline's orange.
1.8.4 2026-10-08
Your note opens from its link; emails read as one heading; a reminder is stamped.
- Your own note's link opens it: on a fresh page it was taken for a stranger's before your sign-in had loaded, and said it was not there. It waits for sign-in now.
- Emails, redrawn: the note's title and words in the heading's own type — one size and weight, the title in ink, the words in grey — beside its mark, a small square at the left instead of a panel across.
- A reminder is stamped on its note: an orange outline, and the emails' bell in its dots, large and half off the card's side, faint behind the words.
- The month's name folds the sidebar: on a desk, press it to put the month away; its key in the bar brings it back.
1.8.3 2026-10-08
Files on comments.
- A comment can carry files: a paperclip in the comment field; each file shows its progress while it goes, and a comment may be only a picture.
- Seen in place: pictures under a comment as thumbnails, other files by name and size — each opens in the kit's viewer.
- Deleted on its own, or with its comment: a file has its own cross, separate from the comment's, and asks first; a comment with files says its files go too — from storage, for good — and a bucket that refuses keeps everything as it was.
- Whose to delete: whoever put the file there, the note's owner, or anyone who may edit the card; a signed-in reader of a shared or public note can send files and take their own off.
1.8.2 2026-10-08
The card's tools open on their own line and fold from where they opened.
- Opened, the tools take the +'s line: over the labels and reactions, which wait underneath until the row folds.
- Always a way to fold it: the fold key stays at the right, where the + was, outside the row — never scrolled out of reach on a phone.
1.8.1 2026-10-08
The + rests with the reactions.
- The card's + sits where a reaction would: white, a reaction's size, at the right end of the reactions' line; scrolled, it still floats at the card's foot.
- Back to the top only when you need it: the arrow shows once the card's name has scrolled out of view.
1.8.0 2026-10-08
Everyone with a note hears of its comments; the card's tools fold to one key.
- Comment emails reach everyone with the note: the owner too, when someone it is shared with comments — never the person who wrote it, and as each person's settings say.
- Search reads the comments: words are found in a note or in anything said on it.
- One + for the card: the tool row folds into a round + floating at the card's right edge, always in reach however far it scrolls; pressed, the whole row — reactions included — with its fold key at the end.
- Back to the top: in the conversation, a round arrow centred at the card's foot.
- A comment said again in the comment field's own shape: the same row, a close key to leave it, the green check to keep it, and the kit's corners for a field that holds lines.
- The brand in emails keeps its shape: the mark is the site's own icon at a fixed size, so no mail app squeezes it.
1.7.9 2026-10-08
A comment is always someone's.
- Signing in to comment: on a public note read signed out, writing a comment opens the sign-in window — every comment carries its writer's name, and none is ever anonymous.
1.7.8 2026-10-08
Notes and cards stay up to date; a public note reads as one.
- Live, everywhere it is open: a comment added, words edited or a step ticked — on another phone, a desk, or by someone it is shared with — arrives in the open note or card within seconds, without a reload. A phone that slept catches up when it is shown; what is being typed is never replaced.
- A shared note reads in the same card: someone else's note, opened by its link, is the kit's card in a read-only form — the words, steps, labels, files and reactions to read — and the old note page is gone. Your own notes open in the card window in every layout.
- Comments for readers: anyone who may read a shared or public note sees its comments; a signed-in reader can add one.
- Who may read it, on the pill: a public note's stage pill ends in orange — Public — and one for all users says so.
1.7.7 2026-10-08
Public notes open for everyone.
- A public note's link works for anyone: signed out, it opened an empty Notes page; now it opens the note, to read, react and comment. Someone else's shared note opens the same way when signed in — the owner's window, with its keys for changing it, is the owner's alone.
- Who can see it, said plainly: a note's sharing choices are Private, All users and Public.
- One Notes bar: the kit's notes page uses the app's own bar, so the new add key, reminders, search and month are the same in both.
1.7.6 2026-10-08
A note from the bar; analytics with room on a desk.
- Add a note from the Notes bar: a round plus key, first beside reminders and search, opens a new note at once.
- Analytics on a desk: the five figures in one row, the chart a steady height whatever the width, the cards and a subject's lists side by side, and hover on everything that opens. The phone's layout is unchanged.
1.7.5 2026-10-08
Analytics that say where, how and who — AI included — and tell you as it happens.
- Live, as it happens: while an administrator has the app open, on a desk or a phone, each visit arrives as a toast — where it came from, what it opened, how — with Details opening it. New accounts, first notes, shares and boards too. A phone that slept catches up.
- Where: city, region, country, continent, timezone and a place rounded to about 10 km, with a map link — from the network's own report.
- AI: visits sent by ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and others, and the crawlers that read the site — GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Googlebot and the rest — seen at the edge, with who read llms.txt and robots.txt.
- How they came, keywords and who: visits by channel (AI, search, social, campaign, direct), search terms where they still arrive, and — never which person — signed in or not, system, language and screen size.
- A calmer dashboard: each subject a small card of its top five; pressed, it opens whole, its CSV quietly at the foot. Visitors opens where they are; each recent visit opens to all it says.
- Loading shown: a card's steps and hidden fields breathe while they arrive.
1.7.4 2026-10-08
Files you can see, and delete for good; storage that sets itself up.
- Pictures show themselves: an attached image shows as a small picture on its card; any file opens in a pop-up over the card — pictures, films, sounds and PDFs in the window itself — with New tab and Download.
- Deleting a file asks first, and then deletes it from storage too, not only from the card. A file another card still holds is kept; a bucket that refuses leaves the file in place and says why.
- Path-style is found, not set: Save and Test ask the service which address form it answers and keep that one. It is mentioned only when the service needs it.
- Save storage turns green while there are changes not saved, and a passing test offers the save in a toast.
- Show on both keys: the access key hides like a password; the secret key's Show fetches the saved key, for an administrator, only when pressed.
- Admin, Analytics: the section is called Analytics; /admin/visits still lands there.
- One kit: the file viewer and the delete confirmation are the kit's own pop-ups, shown on /kit/controls.
1.7.3 2026-10-08
Storage says which field is wrong.
- A failed test points at its field: the field is outlined in red with the reason under it — a secret that does not match, an unknown access key, no such bucket, the wrong region, an address that does not exist, or a missing CORS rule.
- Path-style, explained: a switch that shows how a file's address is put together either way, with your own endpoint and bucket. A bucket whose own address does not exist (Cloudflare's 530) is tried again with Path-style on, and the test says when that is what it needs.
- The file vault is a switch, folded away until it is on; switching it off takes a saved vault off.
1.7.2 2026-10-08
Files go to your own bucket; Storage tests itself.
- Attachments use the Storage bucket: files set in Admin, Storage now carry a card's and a note's attachments — sent from the browser straight to the bucket at a signed address, opened by a signed link. The file vault (driveX) is optional, used only where no bucket is set.
- A paperclip that works or is not there: the card offers files only when they can go somewhere, and a file that cannot be sent says why in its row.
- Test connection, beside Storage: writes a small file, reads it back, deletes it, and asks the bucket whether this site may upload — each step with what it found. A service that needs Path-style says so.
- The file vault lives in Storage, marked optional, not in a separate window.
- Saved secrets are never shown, and now say so: the key's last four characters tell which one is saved; Show appears once something is typed.
1.7.1 2026-10-08
What people do, counted — how many, never who.
- What people do, in Admin → Visits: sign-in links asked for, new accounts, sign-ins, notes written, first notes, boards made, cards added, shares sent and the assistant asked — each counted on the server where it happens, against the span before, with a CSV.
- The way in: home page visitors, then sign-in links asked for, accounts made and first notes written, each step as a share of the one before.
- Counts only: a number per day for each thing, never which account, never what was written; an administrator's own use is not counted. The privacy page says so.
1.7.0 2026-10-08
Visits you can read; notes that move from To do to Done.
- Visits, for the admin: a Visits section shows today, 7, 30, 90 or 365 days — who is here now, visitors, visits, page views, time on site and bounce, each against the period before, a chart by day, and the top pages, sources, campaigns, countries, devices and browsers, each exportable as CSV. Open source, no third party, no cookies.
- Notes have stages: a note can be in Notes, To do, Doing or Done. A key in the card's tool row picks the stage; once a note has one, a line of facts and a To do → Doing → Done tracker show in the note itself.
- Due is the reminder's day: a note shows its Due date with its facts; moving the day keeps the time the reminder rings.
- The tool row holds everything: Step, Labels, Field, File, Stage, Priority and Ask, as one row of icon keys at the card's foot. The reminder sits to the right of the name.
- Reactions are added with +, after the reactions at the card's foot, instead of a key in the header.
- The header's keys fit one line at any width, scaled to it, right-aligned beside the close key. Share is shown as faces — who can see it.
- The reminder menu reads cleanly: each time on one line, the time to the right; no sideways scrolling.
1.6.4 2026-10-08
Signing in lands where it should; visits counted without cookies.
- Sign-in fixed: a sign-in link no longer lands on the sample board. The sample board is never kept as the place you last were, so signing in goes back to your own page, or to Notes.
- Visits are counted, privately: each page sends its address, where the visit came from and any campaign tag — no cookies, no IP address kept, nothing for a browser that asks not to be tracked, nothing for bots. Visits are kept 90 days, daily totals for good. The privacy page says how.
- The landing animation is a way in: press the note to try notes, the board to try a board.
- Names are never cut short in “Where the work is” or on a board’s tile: each wraps, whole, on a phone.
1.6.3 2026-10-08
Only the page, nothing behind it.
- No internal notes in what the site serves: the published page, the sitemap and robots.txt carry no comments about how they are made or hosted — the page alone, for visitors and crawlers.
1.6.2 2026-10-08
A web app, said plainly.
- Nothing to install: the site now says it outright — Outline.co runs in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer, with no download and no app store — in the facts, a new question (“Is there an app to install?”), the Features page and llms.txt.
- The Google Keep page no longer claims notes turn into a task board.
1.6.1 2026-10-08
Simple notes. Smart boards. — and pages search engines and AI answers can cite.
- A new front page line: “Simple notes. Smart boards.” — the simplest way from idea to done.
- The landing animation tells the truth: a note’s steps ticked off, and a card moved along a board from To do to Done. Notes and boards side by side; a note does not turn into a card, and the page no longer says it does.
- Pages of their own: Features, Questions, What’s new, Outline.co vs Trello, vs Google Keep, Privacy and Terms — plain pages a search engine or an AI assistant reads whole, linked from the foot of the front page, listed in the sitemap and in llms.txt.
- A picture for shared links: a 1200 × 630 card in place of the logo, so a link to Outline.co shows what it is in chats, on X and in search.
- robots.txt, the sitemap and llms.txt are never held stale at the edge.
1.6.0 2026-10-08
The assistant beside the card: it shows what it is talking about, and what it changes is there.
- Side by side on a desk. Asked about the open card, the assistant stands the height of the screen at the right and the card steps left to make room; a phone keeps it over the card.
- Answers show their subject. The notes an answer read or changed are drawn under it as small notes — title, steps, comments, labels — a press away; asked from a card, the card is always there. The question shows as asked ("Summarize it — Dentist on Friday"), not as the whole card sent with it; the line under an answer says what it did in words.
- Changes land quietly. A comment, steps or labels the assistant adds appear in the open note or card at once, the panel staying open.
- The Ask field is always there, docked at the panel's foot, inside it, its inset equal at both ends.
- The dock spans the card side to side: six keys — Step, Label, Field, File, Priority, Ask — each its mark over its word; nothing scrolls or is cut off.
- One spark for asking — the corner key, the dock's Ask, the command bar. A step's ✕ shows at rest on a desk.
1.5.5 2026-10-08
Break it into steps, and the steps are there.
- ✨ Ask → Break it into steps asks the model for steps from the card's own name and words and adds them to the card — a note as much as a board card — all at once, with the Ask key showing the wait and a word when they land. It no longer goes to the assistant, which could only act on board cards.
1.5.4 2026-10-08
A comment field that takes several lines; keys that say when they are on.
- The comment field keeps a single line's corners as it grows, so it becomes a rounded box, not a balloon; once the words run past a line they take its whole width and the keys step down under them.
- A comment's keys — copy, edit, delete — are small and side by side, so the name and time keep their words whole.
- Archived and Pinned look on: an ink disc in the card's header while they are.
1.5.3 2026-10-08
✨ Ask answers about the card in front of you.
- Ask hands over the whole card — its words, steps, labels and comments — so the assistant answers from it, a note included, instead of searching the boards for its name.
- The assistant opens over the card window, and keys pressed in it stay its own: Escape there no longer closes the card behind.
- A long note fits: the question being asked carries up to 16,000 characters.
1.5.2 2026-10-08
Comments you can edit, sharing said as faces.
- Comments: only the dot ticks one off, so its words can be read and selected a part at a time. A pencil says one again in other words — in place; Return or the green check keeps it, Escape leaves it.
- Sharing is faces. The board bar, a card's header, a note on the desk and in the list, and the notes shelf all show who it is shared with — you, then the others — in place of an icon; a person-plus while nobody else is in, the world where only a link is out.
- Hide notes spans the conversation side to side. Archive is drawn with fewer lines.
1.5.1 2026-10-08
A dock at the card's foot, a window that stays put, one mark when signed out.
- The dock. Step, Label, Field, File, Priority and ✨ Ask in one floating pill at the bottom of the card window; Priority is one chip, its choices in the one popover. The comment field floats the same way, so a long note never puts it out of reach.
- Windows stay open on a desk. A press or a drag outside no longer closes a card; its own key, Done, Ctrl+Enter or Escape does. Touch screens keep tap-outside and pull-down.
- Signed out: one Outline mark (the side menu stays away), and the bar sits on the page's own ground — no white band, no strip.
1.5.0 2026-10-08
One popover, one icon line, one green — and a board card that matches a note.
- One popover for every menu. The pull-down, labels, reactions, reminder, calendar and colours open in one shell — under their key on a desk, centred on a phone, a name at the head and the cross in the corner — holding rows or chips.
- The command bar. ⌘K, Ctrl+K or the ✦ key: type to find a note or board, go somewhere, make a note or board, set the open card's due, label, step or column — or ask the assistant.
- Board cards match notes. The same header — colour, react, pin, share, archive, delete. Pinned cards come first in their column; archived cards leave the board. Due wears the reminder's bell.
- Colour is a dot at the head of the card's actions (a ring while it has none). Priority is one row of chips — None, Low, Medium, High — the one in force inked.
- Line icons everywhere. The dot-matrix marks in menus, the shelf, the card header and the dashboard are drawn in the kit's one line. Archive is a stack of sheets.
- One green. Accepted, passed, ready: the jade, from one kit class. Send link and the password's sign-in become the green check alone, inside their field.
- Add a board is its name's field: type, Return, and you are on the new board.
- The signed-out bar keeps the mark and the two ways in on one line.
1.4.0 2026-10-07
One card window, for notes and boards alike.
- One window. Notes and board cards open in the same card window, drawn by one view; only where each is stored differs. Column dots are worked out by the card itself, so a note's stages and a board's columns match.
- The card's header holds its actions — react, pin, share, archive, delete — in the dot-matrix marks the notes shelf uses, beside where it lives; its date on the line below.
- Colour and priority are properties, folded to their value; pressed, the choices fade in on the same line.
- One "Add" key everywhere: Add a note on the notes page, the dashboard and the showcase; Add a board on the dashboard. The dashboard's Add a note opens the new note's card at once.
- The add row wears what it adds: a ring, a #, an eye, a clip. The reaction picker is one row with its cross in the corner. The Done key is a green check.
- Dashboard: its two figures sit side by side on a phone.
1.3.0 2026-10-07
One card for notes and boards, each thing said once, what you see is what you get.
- The top line is three things: where it lives, its one date (a note's reminder to the minute; a card's Due), and ⋯ in the corner. Met is the Done column; Starts shows once set.
- One add row: + Step · + Label · + Field · + File (and ✨ Ask where an assistant is set up), on one line. Each opens its field where the finished row will be, drawn as that row.
- ⋯ holds only what has no place in the card: colour, priority, and the card's own actions — the same list for notes and board cards.
- Board cards have colour, priority and hidden fields, as notes do; Share opens the board's people.
- Slash commands in the words: /step, /label, /due (today, tomorrow, fri, in 3 days, oct 12).
- ✨ Ask breaks a card into steps, summarizes it, suggests labels or drafts a reply, in the assistant.
- Link previews on every card, board cards included.
- Add a card opens the new card at once, its name selected; closed untouched, it goes again. The cross turns to a Done check once something changes.
- Board: a press on a dot moves a card one column on, each column its own colour (worn by its tab too); cards glide to their new place; Labels, Due and Timeline sit in the top row.
- Hidden fields: a new one is the row it will be — eye, name, dots — with Paste, then a green check; a revealed value opens onto its own line.
- Every single-line field is a pill. The comment count sits in a speech bubble.
1.2.1 2026-10-07
- The timeline shows the board's name again, on a line of its own under the top row; beside the filters it had been squeezed to a sliver on a phone.
1.2.0 2026-10-07
A board you can read at a glance.
- Every column has its own colour. The first column is grey, each column between gets its own (blue, purple, pink, lime), Done is black with its check. Solid dots, no rings; no orange, which means "today" elsewhere.
- A press on a card's dot moves it one column on, a new colour every time, and from Done back to the start. The card glides to its new place in the list, and the tab it went to pulses with it.
- The tabs carry the colours. Each column's tab wears its dot; the separate key under the list is gone, so the column names are said once.
- Done is the column's word alone. A card taken back out of Done no longer says "Done"; a met date says "Met".
- Labels, Due and Timeline sit in the board's top row, beside the people and the menu, not on a line of their own.
- Sample boards start with "Notes" rather than "Backlog", as new boards do.
1.1.0 2026-10-07
One card, said once, one size.
- One note card everywhere. The desk card is the card on /notes, on the landing page and in the kit; the older list card is retired, and /notes-old lands on /notes.
- An open card says each thing once. The status tracker and the line of facts under the words are gone: status and due are the chips at the top, steps keep their own count. Every chip and key is one size, 26px, in one neutral fill, with the keys' text a step below the words.
- The board's discs read as checkboxes. An empty ring is to do, a ring with its centre filled is doing, a full disc with its check is done; under a pointer the check shows faintly first.
- Pressing and holding a note card to move it now takes half a second, the phone's own long press, so a swipe that starts on a card scrolls.
- "+ Label" loses its #, the round + its shadow; the reactions menu lays out properly on a phone; the board list's one-option "Color by" is gone, and "Color by" sits on its own line.
1.0.0 2026-10-07
The first release. Notes and boards, one set of parts, on a phone first.
- Notes lead. The dashboard opens on your notes; boards follow, when you want them. A board reads as a list.
- Add a note opens the note. Its own card, at once, the caret in its name. Left empty, it goes again.
- Comments you can see are for writing. The field rests in the card, "Write a comment" and the count in it; pressed, it opens with the caret in it. The count on a card opens the conversation on its newest comment.
- Search as you type, with its filters lit beneath the field; on a phone, pull the notes down to search, results above the keyboard.
- One sign-in, the same form in the popup and on a locked page: Email link and Password as tabs, the check inside the send key.
- Sharing says what it sends. Choose which emails people get; resend anybody's link.
- Admin keeps user records: presence, sessions, sign-ins and what each person owns and shares, counts only.
- Files on notes and cards, through the instance's driveX.
0.86.1 2026-10-05
One scroll, and the counts are the way in.
- Notes scroll once. The title row stays at the top; the month and the shelf follow it as part of the page, and the shelf (Notes, Archived, labels, order) locks under the title when the page reaches it. Nothing scrolls inside anything else, and the shelf now runs edge to edge.
- The month lists your notes. The rings and the list under the month are the notes with a reminder that month; each opens its note. Board cards are no longer mixed in.
- Search fills the screen on a phone, field at the top, every choice below it, nothing cut off.
- The counts on the dashboard are filters. Boards, Pinned and Shared show those boards and scroll to them; the one in force is outlined. Their marks are drawn in dots, like the pin.
- A card can be deleted from the board: a quiet × in its corner, and the app's own question first.
- Sorting is two chevrons, up and down.
0.86.0 2026-10-05
Notes and boards, one set of parts.
- A card opens as a note. The card window is the note page's own layout in a pop-up: the column, the dates and Met on the top line, the title large, the words at reading size, the steps as a tick list, the labels as
#chips, and the comments behind the note's own comment key. The old card dialog is retired. - One conversation for everything. Notes and cards share one thread and one input. Comments can be deleted on cards as on notes, with the same question first. Who said it steps back; the words lead.
- Files on cards. "Attach a file" sits under the steps; a file opens in a new tab, × takes it off, and an upload shows how far it has got. It appears once driveX is set up in Admin, and the card now reads those settings itself.
- The kit's calendar for dates. Starts and Due open the month of discs, not the browser's picker; on a short screen it rises from the bottom. Due cards from every board show as rings on the notes month, with a list underneath that opens each one.
- Labels are the same chip everywhere, and the label pull-down on notes and boards shows the real chips with counts.
- Boards can be narrowed by label and by date (overdue, this week, no date). Dragging pauses while a filter is on.
- Moving a card into Done ticks Met. Done, Complete, Completed, Finished or Shipped, in any case.
- Board covers. Each board on the dashboard is a cover in its own colour: the number, the name, its first few cards fading, how much is open and done. The dot picks the colour (or white), the pin pins it, and a Shared pill opens its people.
- Sharing, simplified. One field with the role and Add inside it, then one row per person. Email preferences live in Settings.
- The dashboard is where your boards are.
/boardslands there. Pinned, Starred's new name, wears the pin, and a board's own menu says Pin and Unpin; the shelf and the magnifier sit in the header; "New board…" is the notes pill with a board in its key. - Column colours are picked from the dot at the head of each column.
- One type scale. Every font size in the app comes from the theme now; a note's title and a card's title are one size by construction, from a phone to a desk.
- Quieter on a phone. "Add a card" is a plain line that becomes the field; the board's padding is tighter; nothing moves while a card is still arriving, and what is loading says so.
- Retired: the old kit page (
/kitis the new one), the old wall of boards, the double header on the kit page.
0.85.1 2026-10-05
The new-note window keeps its buttons at the bottom.
- The tools, Cancel and Save sit on the window's bottom edge. They were pinned to the bottom of the page behind the window, which put them across the middle of the writing field with the rest of the field showing under them. In the window they now sit under the field. In a card and on a note's own page they still stay at the bottom of the screen while a long note scrolls.
0.85.0 2026-10-05
Admin gets its own page; settings, emails and boards are rebuilt in the kit.
- Admin is its own page, at
/admin. It is no longer four chips at the end of Settings. It has sections for Overview, People, Storage & AI, Database, Theme and This server, and a link to the Kit. On a phone the sections are a chip row; on a desk they are a column. Each section has its own address, such as/admin/database. Administrators find it in the account menu. - The database can be switched from the admin page. Pick sqlite or libsql, give an address and token, choose remote or replica mode, and press Test connection before Switch database. A switch connects, checks and migrates first, and changes nothing if the new database does not answer. On Node it is written to
.env. On Workers it lasts until the next restart, and the page says so. Only an address inADMIN_EMAILScan switch. - This server lists, in one place, what the install runs on: environment, product name, app address, database, email sender, storage, AI and version.
- Settings is yours alone. It is one column built for phones: who you are, password, which emails you get (switch pills), the devices you are signed in on, and sign out. Everything on it is a kit part.
- Every email is rebuilt in the kit. This covers sign-in, comments, due today, reminders, descriptions, new or changed boards, sharing and leaving. Each email has the brand pill and a white card on the warm grey. Headings are two-tone, the button is an ink pill, and chips mean what they mean in the app: orange is today, red is a reminder. Subjects and the plain-text versions are unchanged. Nothing depends on remote images.
- A board is just the board.
/board/:idhas one slim bar: back, the board's name, + to add a card, one menu and you. Under the bar the lists sit as a chip row, so you can jump to one. Lists are calm columns with a name and a count, and on a phone they snap into place one at a time with the next one peeking. Cards are plain tiles. The old icon rail, the second header row, the per-list progress bars and the × on every card are gone. - The old sidebar is retired. Navigation is the kit's bar and a sheet that slides in, the same as Notes.
- Pop-up menus stay on screen. A menu opened from a key in the middle of a narrow screen used to run off the left edge and clip its labels. It now moves just enough to keep a 12 px margin on both sides.
- [email protected] administers outline.co, set through
ADMIN_EMAILS.
0.84.1 2026-10-05
Settings, assist and waiting, rebuilt in the kit.
- Settings is one column under the notes bar, its sections a row of chips rather than a page of their own. You is there for everyone: who you are, password, email preferences, sessions, sign out. Database, Assistant, Protocol and People appear for administrators only. They keep the same rules and the same confirmations as before; only the way they look changed.
- Assist is the kit's chat screen. The round key opens a sheet above itself, or a bottom sheet on a phone. Suggestion chips send when pressed, a dot-matrix loader holds the place while an answer comes, and the composer is the kit's own.
- The preloader is shaped like the notes page that is arriving. It shows the compose pill and type cards that breathe, so the wait already looks like the page. The compose key draws a note in dots.
- Numbered above 0.84.0, which the live site already reported. That release and its 0.83.0 were made on another line of work, merged in below; their notes UI is superseded by the kit rebuild.
0.83.1 2026-10-05
The dashboard fits a phone; shipping written down.
- The find-a-board field ran off the edge of a phone. It shared a line with the filter chips and had nowhere to go. Under 640 px it now drops to a line of its own under the chips, at full width.
- The new-board name field had two borders. The app-wide input style drew its own border inside the kit's pill. The field inside the pill is now bare, and the pill is the only outline.
NOTES.mdsays what "shipped" means: save and pass the checks, bump the shared version, commit, push, deploy. A push alone does not update outline.co. A release is done when the live site reports the new version.
0.83.0 2026-10-05
The OS kit, everywhere you write.
A new design kit, Kit OS (shown at /kit-new), and the app rebuilt in it: dot-matrix figures, round discs, warm vivid tokens, built for the phone first. There is now one toast system, one pop-up and one pull-down menu, shared by every page, instead of each page keeping its own.
- Notes has one header bar and no sidebar. Pressing Notes slides open a panel. The month sits on top as discs, and days that have notes carry a matrix mark and a count. Below it are the shelf, a labels pull-down and the order. On a desk the month gets a column of its own. Picking a day starts a note written onto that day.
- Cards are type cards in a masonry, and pressing anywhere on a card opens the note.
- Labels live in a footer as violet
#chips, never in the writing. They share one line with the reaction key, and that line scrolls sideways. - Status, priority, steps and a due date, stored as labels, so they need no new columns. They are offered in the asterisk menu and the
+sheet, and each offer is drawn the way it will look once set. Status can be tracked as all three stages at once, ticking off like steps. - Editing looks like reading. The tools, undo and redo dock in one row. A new note starts with the caret in its title.
- Comments have a loading state and a field pinned to the bottom of the screen. On a desk they get a column of their own, and they hide while you write.
- Search by pointing. Status, priority, labels, pinned, steps, links and when are offered as chips. Picking one folds the options away, so the results get the room.
/dashrebuilt from the kit. It shows the day, open cards in dots, counts as timer tiles, progress as dot bars and boards as tinted tiles.- Sign-in, reset password and password settings rebuilt. The email you typed is carried from one step to the next and shown in violet, so it does not have to be typed twice.
- The public page at
/and/board/demo-boardis rebuilt with the kit's infographics. Assist is a quiet round key over a chat built from the kit. The favicon is in the kit's colours. - Dev: with the console mailer and
DEV_LINKS=1, the last sign-in link can be read back at/api/dev/last-link, and the sign-in dialog offers to open it. The route answers only on localhost and never in production. Before this, signing in locally meant copying the link out of the API log.
0.84.0 2026-10-02
A label is a filter, and the words are the way in.
- Press a label, see only those notes. A tag in a note was a chip that did nothing while the identical chip in the rail narrowed the list. Both now call the same function, so pressing #launch where you read it and pressing #launch in the rail are one act rather than two ideas of what a label is for.
- Several labels at once. The filter is a list rather than one name, and a note has to carry all of them — a note about this week's launch copy is #launch and #writing, and "the launch notes" is a different pile from "the launch writing". One at a time could only ever widen. Each one gets a chip in the row above the list with its own way off, and the rail marks every label that is on.
- A pressed label is marked by its chip, not its word. The fill and the outline deepen; nothing underlines. A sentence whose words change weight as the pointer crosses them is a sentence that flickers, and an underlined word in prose reads as a link to somewhere else.
- Labels added with the button sit in the card's footer. The button appends to the end of the text, where a label is not part of a sentence — it is a fact about the note, filed after the note finished. The end of the body is read as filing and drawn along the bottom; a label written into a sentence stays in the sentence. The note itself is untouched: labels are still words in the text, which is still the only place they live.
- The words open the note. Pressing them opened an editor inside the card — so the thing covering most of a card did something different from the card, and on a phone it fired on the gesture you scroll with. Anywhere on a card that is not a control now opens the note, and editing is the Edit button that says so.
- One popup at a time. The plus brought out the emoji and the note's four controls together, and pressing a control left two menus open over one card with nothing to say which the next press belonged to. Opening one puts the emoji away; the controls stay, so the row still shows what it offers.
0.83.0 2026-10-02
What a note is, from the card it is on.
- The four controls come to the card. A note's colour, its reminder, its labels and who may read it were in the editor's footer, which meant the only way to change a note's colour was to start rewriting it. They are facts about the note rather than acts of writing, so they now sit on the row along the bottom of every card, beside the reactions. One
NoteTools, rendered in both places — four menus written twice would be four menus to keep in step, and the first to drift is always the one nobody remembers is duplicated. - The plus opens all of them. Four more marks under every note in a list of forty is forty rows of controls competing with the words, which are the reason the list is there. The plus already means "things I can do to this note"; the emoji were simply the only ones it offered. They come out together and shut together.
- Edit, beside Comment. The two things you do to a note you have just read — change it, say something about it — are the same size of decision, so they are the same control down to the class, and the first of the pair takes the margin that pushes them to the right. It opens the note full screen: a card's worth of text in a card's worth of space is not where anybody wants to write.
- On a phone the words are only words. A tap on them opened the editor inside the card — which is the same gesture as scrolling past them and as following a link in them, so the editor opened when nobody had asked and the page jumped. Edit says what it does and leaves the text alone.
- One definition of "a phone", in
lib/phone.ts: a narrow screen *and* a finger. A narrow desktop window is not one, and neither is a tablet with a mouse. Two definitions of that would disagree about which rules apply to the same screen, which is the hardest kind of difference to see.
0.82.0 2026-10-02
A reminder you can see, change, and actually receive.
- A note wears its reminder. The bell in the editor's footer lit up when one was set, which tells you only once you are already editing. The card now carries a chip saying when, and pressing it opens the same offers the bell does —
RemindOptions, written once and rendered in both, because two copies of "later today" drift the first time either changes. - "Remind me at 6:55" means 6:55. The sweep ran hourly, so an email for 6:55 went out at 7 — up to fifty-nine minutes after the moment somebody chose. Two crons now: every minute for reminders, the morning for the due-card sweep, which is news about a day and does not want delivering at 3:01 AM.
- The reminder email carries the note. It sent the first sixty characters and a button, which is a notification that the thing exists rather than a reminder of what it said. Title, body, link — cut at two thousand characters, because an email is a message and not a mirror of the database.
- And it arrives on screen. A reminder that comes due while the page is open raises a toast with the note's title and a way into it. Keyed by note and time, so moving one lets it ring again; nothing older than ten minutes before the page opened, so a reload does not replay last Tuesday.
- The time could not be set. The picker committed on the input's own
change, which adatetime-localfires while you are still working through date, hour and minute — the menu shut on a half-chosen time with no way back. Nothing leaves that row until Set reminder is pressed, and the field arrives holding the current reminder, so changing one is editing it. The field was also clipped after10/02/2026 0, with the hour and minute past the edge: the caption sits above it now rather than beside it. - "Later today" is its own offer and appears only while there is a later today — six in the evening if that is still ahead, two hours from now if it is not, and omitted once that would cross midnight. It used to relabel itself "Tomorrow morning" in the same slot, which is a menu quietly changing what it means.
- A note changed before it existed.
created_atis the day a note is filed under — the calendar writes one onto a chosen date at noon — andsincehad no answer for a time ahead of now: the gap goes negative, which is under a minute, which read as "just now". A note dated three weeks out claimed to have been written this second. It says the date, and the row marks the filing date with a calendar glyph so the two facts are told apart. - Dates read
04.27.26everywhere one is shown, built by hand rather than by locale, since the point of a format is that it is the same on every machine. - Every write ends with a quiet re-read, so the device that saved is showing what the server holds rather than what it hoped — and the card reports when the server has actually taken a change, not when the optimistic update fired.
- The single-note page called live notes deleted. Its fetch ran before the session reached the client: the owner's route answered 401, the shared route 404, and together they read as "that note is not here any more".
0.81.0 2026-10-02
The tick box ticks its own line.
- Ticking a to-do changed the item above it.
NoteBodycuts the title off the front before parsing, so every line number it reported was counted from the note's second line — while the toggle it handed those numbers to edits the whole note. Off by one, every time; the last box in a list toggled a line that was not a to-do at all, which read as nothing happening. Proved on a three-item list: pressing the second box now moves the second line and nothing else. - Lists share one gutter. Bullets and numbers sat in
1.6emof padding and to-dos at zero with a flex gap, so a note holding both had two left edges and the boxes stood outside the line the bullets started on. The box takes the gutter as a grid column rather than relying on a checkbox's own width, which is the browser's to decide and differs between them. - An empty
- [ ]is still a to-do. The pattern required a space after the bracket; saving trims the trailing space, so every box nobody had written in stopped being a box the moment it was saved — and the line numbers of the boxes under it went out of step with it. - Labels save. A label is a word in the note, so changing one is an edit to the note — and while the editor is open the note's text is the editor's, not the copy last saved. It wrote to the saved copy regardless: the tag reached the server, the editor carried on without it, and Save wrote that back over the top.
- The
/palette is gone; selecting text opens a pill under it. A textarea will tell you the index of a selection and nothing about where it is on screen, solib/caret.tsmeasures it with a mirror — same box, same font, same wrapping — and the pill hangs under the words it is about. Seven marks in one row, because a panel of seven labelled lines covers the sentence you are deciding about. The palette it replaces had no stylesheet rules at all, which is why its labels ran into their own descriptions. - Every editor menu was opening as a six-pixel sliver.
.note-editor-sheet.widesetsbottomfor the version anchored to its button; floated, the opener setstop— and a fixed element with both offsets takes its height from them, which came out negative. The same fault in the account menu, where a phone-only rule settop, and there it was also drawn behind the rail it belongs to. - Search has a button in the bar, takes the caret when it opens, and no longer covers the results it is narrowing.
- The API worker migrates its own database. It never did: every column since reached production because
npm run devpoints at the same remote database and migrates on boot. A coincidence, not a deployment. - A wrong password says so in a toast; setting a reminder says when it will arrive; the pin is one control on the card rather than a badge and a menu line.
0.80.0 2026-10-02
Every menu opens, and resetting a password is a page.
- The editor's menus were broken inline, and the cause was one line of CSS.
.note-editor-sheet.widesetsbottom: calc(100% + 4px)for the version that hangs off its button. Floated and portalled, the opener setstopas an inline style — and an element withposition: fixedand *both* offsets takes its height from them rather than from its content, which here came out negative. Colour, Remind me, Labels and Private opened as a six-pixel sliver of their own padding with two hundred pixels of items scrolled out of sight. Full screen it happened to work, because the opener chose the other side. The floating rule now resets every offset and outranks the anchored one by specificity rather than by luck. - Menus are measured when pressed, not in an effect a commit later, and they choose the side with more room and cap their height to it — so none can open off the bottom of a phone again. One
placeSheetanswers that for the editor's four, the note's own menu and both account menus; the account menu wasposition: absoluteinside a rail that scrolls, which cut it off. - Clicks inside the editor stay inside it. Inline, the editor sits in a card that opens the note's page when pressed.
- Resetting a password is
/reset-password, reachable signed in or out, mirroring Apple's own flow — heading, one line, the fields, one button forward, and no way to skip past it. The rules are Apple's too, quoted inshared/password.ts: eight or more characters, upper and lowercase, at least one number. No symbol, because they do not ask for one. They tick themselves off in green as you type, the same four the server enforces from the same file. - It never asks for the password you came there having forgotten.
GET /api/auth/passwordreturns whether this session is a fresh link, so the page knows before it draws itself; when the link has expired it offers Email me a new link instead of telling you to go and do that yourself. Setting one ends with a toast and the sign-in open on the Password tab. - One pin. The corner mark on a card is the toggle — filled when on, hollow when off — and the menu line that did the same thing from somewhere else is gone, along with the retired toolbar that still existed in the stylesheet.
- A note's page no longer draws a sign-in dialog over itself, the sample board counts as nowhere so a link always lands on the notes, and the shrink icon's fourth bracket points the right way.
0.79.0 2026-10-02
A password, if you want one, and a notes page that stops shouting.
- Sign in with an email and a password, as a second way in beside the link. PBKDF2-SHA256 through WebCrypto, so the same hash verifies under tsx and under workerd; the cost is written into every hash, so it can be raised later without a migration. Every failure answers with one sentence whether the address is unknown, has no password, or the password is wrong, and the timing is levelled to match. Ten wrong tries per address in fifteen minutes, then the door closes.
- No reset token anywhere. A sign-in link already proves somebody can read the address, which is the whole question a reset token answers — so a session minted by a link in the last quarter hour may set a new password without producing the old one. Only
method = 'link'counts: signing in *with* the password cannot stand in for the check it is meant to pass. A password is set, changed or removed from the account dialog. - Signing in lands on your notes, every time. It did not: the store selects the sample board for anybody signed out and writes it into the address, so by the time a link finished exchanging the app was at
/board/demo-boardwith a board open — and both redirects read that as "already somewhere". The sample board is nowhere now, and the remembered-board branch is gone. - The notes list waits for the session. Effects run child first, so the page asked for the list before the stored token had reached the client: the request went out bare, came back 401, and the page locked itself behind "sign in to read your notes" above a bar showing the name of the person who was signed in.
- One editor for a note. The note's own page kept a second one — no title field and none of the note's controls, because it had never been given them — and the pencil that opened it. Both gone; pressing the words opens the card's editor, which is the whole one.
- The editor is the window. Full bleed at every width, square corners, and on a phone every inside measure halved. The title row gained a × that empties it. Undo and redo float as a pill above Save instead of trailing a row that scrolled sideways. A footer menu now measures both sides of its button and caps its own height, so it can no longer open off the screen.
- Black is the main action.
--accentand--kit-accentare ink, and the kit's primary button answers to the accent instead of the rail yellow; status colours keep their hues, because there a hue is carrying the meaning. The filter chips name their green directly so they stop following the accent. - The sign-in dialog is one height whichever tab is showing — the two panes share a grid cell — with a ring that travels between them, a password revealed only once the address is the shape of one, and "Sign in to Outline.co" on a single line. Resetting stays on the Password tab rather than sliding back to the link, which made it read as an ordinary sign-in.
- Search opens over the page instead of pushing the list down. The sample-board banner is centred and stated once:
.notice.banneroutweighed it and shoved it 18px off its own centre, and four declarations across two blocks set its padding.
0.78.0 2026-10-02
Signing out, writing ahead, and a month you can read.
- Signed out is a state of the page, not a toast. A 401 left the list
null, so the loading shapes ran for ever behind a message that faded. The page now stops loading and says what is wrong, with a Sign in that opens the window — reachable from anywhere through one event, the way the assistant already is.ApiErrorcarries the status so a page can tell "signed out" from "not there". - A note can be written onto a day ahead. The server clamped
createdAtto now, so a note written onto next Tuesday came back stamped today and vanished from the filter it was written under. Any day in the calendar is pressable now, empty ones included, and saving a dated note opens it. - Deleting offers Archive first — reversible, before the one that is not — through the shared confirmation, which also fits its three answers on one line on a phone.
- Archived has a view of its own in the rail, not only a line in the filter menu.
- One editor for writing and editing. Creating a note now carries the same colour, reminder, label and visibility controls an existing one has, applied as it is created rather than patched in afterwards.
- Calendar: "Today" is a pill at the size of the date beside it, every date is legible, and the chosen day reads at 11.8:1 instead of white-on-mint —
--accent-inkanswers--accent, and the kit accent has its own ink. - The comment field is ink and paper with no colour in it at all. The bar is flush and rounded with the count on the filter that counts it, the sort and comments toggles are marks rather than words, and the footer menus are drawn outside the row that was clipping them.
0.77.0 2026-10-02
Notes became a page you could live in.
- Notes is where signing in lands you, and where a returning session at the root goes.
- One card everywhere. The list and a note's own page drew the same card twice and had drifted twice; both now render
NoteCard, which also owns editing in place, ticking, tags, reactions and comments. - Comments on the card. The Comment button opens the thread where the note is instead of loading a page. Enter sends, Shift+Enter breaks a line, the field grows to six lines, each comment rises into place and the one in flight shows as pending. A toggle in the bar opens or closes every conversation at once.
- A note has a title: its first line, shown as its own field full screen and as an
h1on the card. No second column —titleOfalready treated the first line as the name. - Colour, from the same six tones a board column uses.
- Reminders that arrive.
remind_aton a note, a sweep beside the due-card one, and the API cron moved from daily to hourly so "later today, 6:00 PM" can mean six. Later today / Tomorrow / Next week / pick a date and time. - Labels are the hashtags already in the text — a menu to put one on or take it off, rendered as chips. No second label store.
- Private / Protected / Public, stored and enforced: a
/sharedroute serves a note to a non-owner only when its owner said it may, and the note's page falls back to it read-only. - The editor lost its toolbar. Cmd/Ctrl+B and I, Cmd+Shift+X, lists that continue themselves, and a
/palette for to-dos, lists, code, headings and links. Undo and redo of its own, because the marks break the browser's. - The rail is this page's own: a month with a bar per note, hashtags with counts, search over text or an expression (
tag:,has:todo, before:), and a sidebar that toggles at every width. - Deleting a note or a comment asks first. URLs in notes become links that open in a new tab.
- Site-wide: the page is white, the type scale derives from one
--text-root, the focus ring is the skin's accent instead of the brand pink, and a phone gets tighter spacing from one block.
